"Brutus" the e55k Project

Brutus Image updates and saga

Spigot to you too,

Old plastic worn spigot and The Alloy replacement spaced and pressed into the wheel hub.

Measuring 73.1 Od and 66.6 int Bore (hub)

I Rang wheelbase alloys today after no reply to my last email asking what they intended to do.

The reply was they want the 2x old spigots back to examine and go from there, When asked what i wanted I Basically said 2x New front wheels which were made properly with proper fitting spigots which were upto the job.... will see.

Dont forget this whole above exercise as cost me 2 new front forward arms, 2x Bearings 1x forward prop uj and 2x New Goodyear F1 tyres, Yes the car has benefited but the work was really unnecessary, all because i had a small shimmy of the wheel!

The Leaking cooler

Brutus has pretty much done me in now i have to admit, Here is a couple of pics of the Leaking cooler,

Part number 2115000400 and only specific to Cls and e55k of the same vintage that i know of.

oil1.jpg

oil2.jpg

Note oil hanging from part of the Cooling fan Loom and plug and from the shrowed.

I've ordered the "NEW" replacement Behr/Hella unit from a r230 55k, It has a m14x1.5 sensor on the side which i wont use, also i may have to fabricate a bracket for the cooling fan, But this i feel is a small price to pay for a New unit which is essentially the same as the £550+ one from Mb, Sorry but im all spent out.

Don't give up on Brutus yet Gav. Get this repaired and you may find she has no further faults in your ownership. The wheels are a pain and no fault of the car itself. You have spent a lot of money getting it up to A1 condition, now enjoy it, get a cheapy runabout for work when finances allow anmd use the E55 for social and fun times.
I think you stand to lose a fair bit if you sell up now.

Yeh they are CLK wheels. Part number A209...

I was gonna get em but can't be asked to look for 2 more

I was sorry to hear about the problems you have had with your wheels.
No doubt you have had more than enough of aftermarket wheels but if you decide you continue in that direction can I recommend Rimstyle?
They are the UK importers for BBS but also offer a range of wheels called Genesis Line which I have just fitted to my E55.
The main reason I chose them was because they are machined at the factory to the correct offset hence no need for spacers and long bolts etc.
I have been very pleased with the quality and the fit is perfect. I know and understand why many E55 owners prefer to keep the original wheels but I wanted something different without compromising on quality.
If you're interested you would be more than welcome to come over to MK and have a look.
What ever you decide don't give up on Brutus..I've just suurvived all sorts of agonies at the hands of Eurocharged Watford but have finally ended up with car which is now almost how I want it...

Early 211's dont rust any worse Lets keep it that way!

Whilst the Arch liner is out awaiting delivery of the New cooler i though i may aswel continue rust proofing as id already done the entire Os floor of the car.

Using Hammerite Waxyol i took all the bungs out 1st and Brushed it all on.

1st pic to show nowt to hide, Brutus is solid and rust free, I want to keep it that way.

I will probably get some spray on Rust proofing to get around the strut tower as brushing it on will end up everywhere.

1 arch nearly done, Only another 3 to go

Looks remarkably clean under there

Hope you get the wheels sorted soon.

Thanks bud, 1st thing i do with any car i get is take the arch liners out and get it all clean behind there.

You'd be surprised at just how much mud n muck gets behind them.

All donations greatfully received lol:D

Good work Gav. Shame about the oil line connections shearing off.

Thanks bud, I would have been disappointed in Brutus if it had all gone straight forward, It does like fighting back when your working on it.:wallbash:

There was no way they were coming undone, I reckon a careful slit with a angle grinder then a small chisel should see them coming out.

I really could do without having to replace those hoses.

I don't know what to say Gavin, you've been unlucky but as before you will lose too much if you sold it now, all that work for someone else, you know sod's law would kick in & the car will be fine for 4- 5yrs!
Hope this is the last thing for awhile Gavin ,good Luck mate, I mean that!

On the plus side... atleast you're doing the work yourself. Saving yourself a god damn fortune!
