OK, so it not for my car.

Looking for a generic handsfree, plug in to the cig. lighter style hands free for my girlfriends car.

I don't want to go too cheap and nasty as I know it wont work and therefore not used, but I am sure there must be some half decent ones out now.

Anyone got one to recommend? Anything to steer clear of?

What do you mean by budget? Many of the phone manufacturers proper HF kits are available for a good price, and the speech quality is generally far improved.

Failing that, Bluetooth headset? Usage would not be restricted to the car then.

That's a place to buy one. I am looking more for a device specific recommendation. Anyone?

I fear these plug and go devices don't really work. If there is one out there that comes with someones backing, then that's what I want to know.

can't recommend any particular thing.. as i tried this once and kept getting feedback from my stereo through the speaker for the handsfree.

Resulted in taking it back pronto and getting a refund. From what i remember.. i spent about £20 from my local independant mobile phone store.

Now i'm using my XDA2 with a GPS cradle which doubles as a loud speaker and a navigator :D

I am thinking I would pay up to £50 for a plug in device if someone has good experience of one or if the general opinion is these are no good pay for a Nokia Car Kit and wire it in properly.

What type of phone is are you looking at a solution for?

We've got a Parrot Bluetooth model. It is very impressive. cost about £100. Can be moved from car to car, works with the voice-dialing facility on most phones. Clear, good quality speaker and microphone. Internal rechargeable battery so that the cigar lighter is free for all the other gadgets in life.

Would recommend it to anyone.

Nokia 7250. No Bluetooth.

General opinion is that the £20-£30 solutions are rubbish - no surprise I guess.

I could hardwire a full Nokia car kit, but would rather not - girlfiend is bound to change phone etc.

I am thinking a generic phone holder and one of these might be the ticket

Nokia HF-3

 :D  LOL .. trying to jog my memory here.. but i'm pretty certain thats an ericsson of some sort.. i remember they were all the rage some years ago.. and that aerial! oh my god.. ideal to poke people with.. don't have that fun with todays modern gadgets! .. nice find Steve! :D

Found the ideal solution:

A good quality solid cradle for the phone.

Use of Nokia's speaker phone function. Works a treat!.........and in full compliance with law.

You said you were also thinking about a generic phone holder and the Nokia plug in kit. If the background noise proves to be a problem with just the phone speaker then the plug in kit may do the trick.

I use to use one that looked like that with my old Nokia 8890i and it worked perfectly.

If you could at least convince her to stay with one brand of phone, Sony Ericsson do a marvellous adjustable cradle, which I've got hooked up to my long suffering HCA20 kit.

Copes with everything from tiddlers like the old T28/T39 chassis, right up to monsters like the P910i and R-chassis phones. I find it invaluable, allowing me to swap between phones as the mood takes me...

...ok, so my house looks like a Sony Ericsson showroom... T28, 2x T68i's, R310, T610, K700i, S700i, P910i, V800, V600i on the way, plus about a dozen chargers (one for every room), and a couple of charging/sync cradles
