C-Class Hit And Run this evening!

Nighmare Boggie, what an appalling ****

Sadly, this is a direct result of the government's decision to remove traffic police from our roads and substitute them with speed cameras. Driver's such as this, uninsured no doubt, possibly driving under the influence, possibly with false number plates, are now immune from prosecution ... unless we, the motorists, fight back. Who else is going to stop them?

Completely understand your actions Boggie; since the start of the year, I have driven several hundred miles, into North Wales and Lancashire and I haven't seen one single police car ... seen plenty of cameras though

Next time you [anyone] are asked whether you support speed cameras, remember this **** who hit Boggie (and it could happen to you) could have been stopped if there were more traffic police on the roads.

Sad

Sorry to hear of this "bump". No comments on actions as I feel they have been well presented from both sides. Now damage, the other car is presumably damaged too? Why not phone round the dealers and indies to see if they have been asked to quote for a repair.

Was the car A W202 or W203 (current shape)?

If car was not stolen then I suspect that it wil be garaged for a while untill things die down a little but may be worth a try phoning around bodyshops butwe have no idea if car is local. I doubt that the car would end up at Stealer bodyshop for repairs as this low class scum would have otherwise pullrd over and exhchanged insurance details to go do down the proper route and yor car would have beeen repaired at no extra cost to the b@stard as same exces would apply... (just my peronsal opinion). I doubt he had any insurance at all hence reason for not stopping unless he was drunk but drunks are normally "out of it" and would not have been alert to switch the lights off to prevent the number plate from being read...

On that basis I would go for it being a 202. Surely no one who could afford a 203 would be so stupid? All be it not very expensive they are in comparison to W202 which can be picked up for very little money.

I was going to say something very similar, but feel I must defend Andy-K's comments. They were fair, and very constructive. I can understand the reasons why you 'chased' the car, but if you could not see the number when it collided with your car then proceeeding at the legal speed limit would perhaps not allow you to catch this lunatic?

Go through these threads and read the criticisms against emergency vehicles that merely exceed speed limits, then look at the posts that condone your driving???

I feel for you and would be seething, I may well have gone after the car just like your good self, but........... when that next accident occured you should have had the self control to back off, by not doing so you merely lowered yourself to the standards of the lunatic you were persuing.

You state that other innocent folks had accidents? Apart from the fact it can be suggested you were actually racing this idiot (I am NOT saying you were) these folks might have got the vehicles registration number or more importantly they might have been injured.

You are quick to suggest you never mentioned speeds, but seriously, who are you trying to kid??? You mention about driving through streets...........

I feel for you, and I would be spitting bullets, we all like folks to agree with us and Andy has told me things I don't want to hear, but I am honest enough to put my hands up and accept other folks point of view and most importantly, respect them even more for saying it.

You were right to try and obtain the vehicles registration number, but wrong to go about it in the manner you did.

I wish you every success in locating this idiot and please take Ian's advice and telephone your local body repair shops to try and locate the vehicle.

Yours very sincerely,
John

Tust me my friend alot of idiots drive around in new/current shape Mercs too... W203 C320 (early 2001) can be had for £10K with 100K plus miles on clock - The early W220s are starting to get in the hands off idots too now and T/V/W plates are going for £12,500 and I have seen plenty of new MBs being driven by lunatics...

Reminds me of when I got side swiped by a guy in a W203 (this is going back 3 years). He was attempting to undertake me but cut in a little to early and hit my nearside wing

He then proceeded to carry on driving!

I flash lights, honk horn etc and he stopped about 1000M down the road. I am sure if I was in something slower he would have sped off......

Allegedly including the SLR McLaren

SLRs are mainly owned by celebs/VIPS and none of them (apart from F1 drivers/Motor Shows hosts i.e. Top Gear presenters) can drive to save their lives... ;) :)

For what its worth..

Situation 1: I live close to where this incident had taken place. A few years back i was driving along the A40 from Bayswater to Harrow and was cut up and forced to swerve by an idiot in a Vauxhall Vectra. He put his foot down and started hitting speeds which i knew were way above the speed limit and my brother (who was with me) decided to call the police (thinking it was a stolen car/ joy rider). Within minutes we were put through directly to two local cop cars who had lined up along the A40 at various points ready to intercept him. While i cruised along at the legal speed limit i could see him in the distance speeding through the traffic. Unluckily for him he kept getting caught at lights and so allowed me to catch up and give location reports. When he ventured off to Hanger Lane (A40/A406 Junction) a line of the local bobby was waiting. He was pulled over and I went off home. Later that evening i got a call from the police, thanking me for what i did.

And 2nd situation: I witnessed a theft and saw the thieves get away in a car. The erratic behaiviour of their driving immediately told me its just not worth getting into my car and heading pursuit. I managed to get a description of the car, and passed it onto to Police. A few weeks past by and nothing at all, then one day i had a local Detective visit me saying that they pulled over the car and arrested the occupants. It took time, but they got them in the end.

When there is a risk for someone elses life, its just not worth it. Although we all have the feeling we can be that hero, sometimes its best left to those who do it best. Hope the b@st@rd gets caught and has his hands chopped off. That'll be one less plonker on the road

I have phoned several times loonies driving - minor accidents - thefts - getaway cars (lived in Slough you see.... :p ) - never, ever, have I been phoned back thanking me - or even letting me know what happened (like - thanks sir, matey was arrested and is 'helping with our enquiries'). I even chased after a thief coming out of a post office - jumped in a car and hoofed it off down a country lane - I went after him in my volvo estate (940 turbo) - but wqasnt as much of a loon. Stopped, phoned police, they were nice at the time (aparantly been after this car for a bit) - no further news... Why do I bother????

Grrr.

I see no problem in following at the legal speed to get his 'plate - I have done the same thing (Beemer went into the back of me, then drove off - new 5 series too!). He stopped 1/2 mile up the road...

He said he 'heard a crash' - so hardly a vital witness (I assume it was quite busy as it always is (this is the bit towards denham is it?) - and this info could have been given to the police, if they had bothered to answer the phone

I guess everyone has their own experience.. but for me, they've always done a good job. On a seperate note not related to motoring, recently one of my staff was assaulted whilst at work and had about £2k worth of stuff stolen (which if they wanted to use, could only be done in my stores). All caught on CCTV. We gave all the info to the local boys in blue, and 3 weeks later we were indentifying them in ID parades. Result again! The main culprit, only 15 y/o looks likely to do 5 years plus.

Ps.. Slough! ... enough said :D

I think it is terrible when the Police do not have the good manners to thank anyone for assisting them to apprehend law breakers. I cannot think of any excuse for there not being a follow up. They have at the very least your contact number. Shame on them, but I suppose we get the Police service we deserve?

Down here we often have Good Citizenship presentations. The Chief Constables Office will collate the names of these helpful souls, then when there is a suitable number, a very formal tea and sticky bun ceremony is arranged where the member of the public gets the rightful recognition they deserve along with a nice framed certificate.

Being called as a witness however    triple mad experience

this will also relate to when i just got my w203 and the police asked to borrow my jack ... not only that but i saved them wrecking the hub by telling them about the shorter studs ...

have i heard anything .. letter thanking me .. etc ... not a sausage..

Make sure there is not to much icing on the bun when you stuff it into the box :D

I personally believe public recognition is not recognised nowhere near enough. In fact how often do we commend our employee's, compared to telling them off?

Okay they might be a bunch of jackass's but there is more than one way to improve performance?

Surrey Police phone back. Shame that they are about to be merged with 87 other counties and the whole lot outsourced to India to help shore up the Treasury's shortfall.
