C-Class Hit And Run this evening!

I personally believe public recognition is not recognised nowhere near enough.

Dear Lizzie,

Hope you're well and things are settling with you and the new Daughter-In-Law. Anyway, the reason for me writing is to recommend my mate Glojo for an OBE/ MBE/ Knighthood, what ever you can manage. He's an ok bloke, and speaks well and my main reason for nominating him is that he won MBClub Personality of the Year.

'Nuff said really, i'm sure you get the idea.

Madferrit!

There you go John, lets hope she logs on now :D

I've got a friend called Elizabeth who shares the same b'day as QE2 ... I photoshopped this picture for her party using an official 'Jubilee' portrait downloaded from the Royal Family website ... probably high treason?!

This evening on the way home I was waiting to enter a roundabout at the A40 / M40 junction. I was in the middle lane going straight on when some a$$hole in a dark C Class Merc saloon came down the LH lane at speed and tried to turn right just as we set off. He slammed into my passenger side then after a brief second he shot off down the dual carriageway to the left.

I chased after him to try and get his number plate, unfortunately I was in the wrong gear so turbo lag gave him a bit of a head start. However once I got going I started catching him very quickly but he started driving like a lunatic swerving all over the road. Eventually we got to the end of the short dual carriageway and I was almost close enough to read his plate but he pulled out onto the wrong side of the road right into the path of oncoming traffic forcing 2 or 3 cars onto the grass verge. I think car 3 ran into the back of car 2 as I heard a crash but can't be sure.

Eventually I overtook the cars in front and started after him and was again catching him but he overtook around a blind corner on the wrong side of the road then killed his lights and sped off down a side road with speed humps. By the time I got into the road he was too far ahead to catch, especially as it was a residential road with speed humps and he was a psychopath.

Can't believe it - I got home and had a look at the damage. The passenger door, sill, front wheel and wing are all going to need replacing. About £2K of damage I think. Even the side of the bonnet has been deformed. Fortunately I have protected no claims but my excess is substantial so I have lost that at least not to mention the rise in premium I am bound to see next renewal.

I rang the Police to report the incident in the hope that the c*nt had had a serious crash or someone else had reported him. After nearly 15 minutes on hold I spoke to some chap who said that he would put me though to someone who would help, they in turn said they would put me through to the local Police Station, local Police Station only had an answering service so I hung up.

I will keep an eye out for him over the next couple of days as I know a good place to sit and wait. If I see him he will be hurt.

I had a similar incident in Fleet a few weeks back, some nutcase in a silver bmw 3-series raced past me on the opposite side of the road, smacked my driver side wing mirror so hard that s it fell it hit the rear door and dented it, about £400 of damage...b*st*rds...

For what its worth..

Situation 1: I live close to where this incident had taken place. A few years back i was driving along the A40 from Bayswater to Harrow and was cut up and forced to swerve by an idiot in a Vauxhall Vectra. He put his foot down and started hitting speeds which i knew were way above the speed limit and my brother (who was with me) decided to call the police (thinking it was a stolen car/ joy rider). Within minutes we were put through directly to two local cop cars who had lined up along the A40 at various points ready to intercept him. While i cruised along at the legal speed limit i could see him in the distance speeding through the traffic. Unluckily for him he kept getting caught at lights and so allowed me to catch up and give location reports. When he ventured off to Hanger Lane (A40/A406 Junction) a line of the local bobby was waiting. He was pulled over and I went off home. Later that evening i got a call from the police, thanking me for what i did.

And 2nd situation: I witnessed a theft and saw the thieves get away in a car. The erratic behaiviour of their driving immediately told me its just not worth getting into my car and heading pursuit. I managed to get a description of the car, and passed it onto to Police. A few weeks past by and nothing at all, then one day i had a local Detective visit me saying that they pulled over the car and arrested the occupants. It took time, but they got them in the end.

When there is a risk for someone elses life, its just not worth it. Although we all have the feeling we can be that hero, sometimes its best left to those who do it best. Hope the b@st@rd gets caught and has his hands chopped off. That'll be one less plonker on the road

I know I'm a little back with the times (or with the thread at least), but I was wondering... Who do you call? Do you actually dial 999 even though its not life-threatening to you? Or is there a special "location-specific" number? (or traffic police number?)

I had gotten this fridge-magnet in the mail about 4 monhs ago, with a nice little list of alternative numbers to call instead of 999 (like who to call if your house was robbed while you weren't in etc) But my mother passed by and decided she liked it (which makes me wonder if its ANY use to her as she lives nowhere near me...)

If she stole it then I would definitely dial 999 and have her arrested :)

If you were the victim of a crime and there was a very good chance that the offender could be apprehended by a quick response then I would say fill your boots but don't hold your breath. :)

Thames Valley police are useless, they have a "non-emergency" 0800 number to call but I kept giving up after being on hold for 15 minutes and trying again later. I eventually gave up and went to the police station in person. So in the end it took me nearly 24 hours to successfully report the crime and once I did they gave ME a producer!
What a waste of time, you can bet that if I had driven past a 30mph speed camera at 36 they would have been contacting me without delay! W4nker$

Well it goes to show that motorists are 'fair and easy' targets, it would take real police work to catch real crimminals. The incident which happened to me was:- The firms car was parked in the road and was hit by a stolen xr3i the driver did a runner before anybody saw him. The police turned up as the ford was buried / attached to my car and I ended up having to produce the documents. I wasn't driving, nobody was and the car wasnt even registered to me,and it wasnt even insured by me. But Plod had a bee in his bonnet, or even his helmet and insisted. Next time I shall just ignore him and walk away

You've done nothing wrong..... why did you have to produce

I'd have told him to poke it ..... idiots .....

You can't refuse to declare if requested. You can be prossecuted if you fail to.

I wouldn't mind declaring if requested as long as more of hte uninsured were caught and prossecuted properly.

That's nasty, and I'm genuinely sorry for your misfortune.

Have to say that I think you did the wrong thing in chasing this a$$hole. You sensibly haven't indicated that you used excessive speed or drove in a manner that would've resulted in a court appearance, but in order to keep catching up with someone intent on leaving the scene of an accident (at any cost, apparently...), you would've undoubtedly had to drive extremely quickly. The hit and run clown might possibly have slowed down a little had he not been fleeing you, so there's a chance that the subsequent accidents would not have occured.

People like the guy who hit you are scum, and if I could lay my hands on the bloke who took the side off my beloved Corrado VR6 (while I was in a restaurant) a few years back, his new life (as a particularly unattactive woman...) wouldn't be worth living. However in this case, by proceeding to chase this plum, you've put other road users at risk (either directly or indirectly) and I think you should gracefully concede that point and put it down to the fact that you were angry and irrational. We all make mistakes - don't get me wrong - but if anyone had been killed during this chase, the damage to your car would've been the last thing on your mind..........and the police's for that matter.

Just be glad you're uninjured and insured. Don't wait for this guy to appear, because he's probably the sort to carry a knife or worse, and no matter how handy you are with your fists, some things aren't worth losing your life over. Plus, it'd be just your luck if he pressed charges against you.... :)
