I'm in the market for a MB C280 Sport (V6, 98 S reg) and before I purchase I was wondering if anyone could tell me what sort of fuel consumption I should expect. Parkers guide says 28mpg.
I prob do 60 - 70% of miles on the motorway.

Thanks for your help.

Chris

My business partner drives a C280 Elegance (straight 6). And he marvels at the economy. It can acheive 30+ driven at 80-90 mph

I'd say 33-35 on the motorway at 80. My 240 has averaged 31mpg over 40000miles, and that is a right old mix! Does dpend very much how you drive it though: i can get as low as 23mpg in stuttgart with lots of cold starts, uphill driving and an abnormal amount of red lights. Having said that, i generally drive below 3000rpm. I have seen as high as 37 over one tank! The 280 is also more economical than the 240 despite it's size: the volumetric efficiency is better.

Forgot to ask earlier, how often do they need serviced and how much does it normally cost? This is also a pretty big factor as I do on average 17500/yr.
I know I should buy a diesel but I just don’t like them!!

Cheers, Chris

Welcome!

Maybe Grandmother Suck Eggs time, but.....

Don't dismiss diesels so lightly, especially MB. You may have had a point in the past, but nowadays? MB especially make stonking diesels and the improvement over the last generation is astounding!!

Servicing depends on how it's driven. At a guess on your mileage I'd say an A service (£250 plus bits) and a B service (£500 plus bits) per year

10k miles pa mostly around town but the odd 20mile m/way trip - I get an average of 19mpg but have got 29 on a trip to Oxford.

2.8 V6 Sport Saloon R reg 117k miles
