C350e anyone considering one?

Simple maths. If it takes 4 hours to charge then you simply multiply whatever you pay per kilowatt hour by 4.
So I pay approx 11pence for 1 kwh so a 4 hour charge would be 44p.

I think it takes more kW per hour though. Someone has given an estimate, based on their tariff, of 80-odd p for a charge.

C350e
Premium plus
Diamond silver, privacy glass.
Received mine two weeks ago, ordered 9 months ago. Happy with everything, Mpg not what I expected but I'll have to put up with that.
Anyone know how much approximately it costs to charge from a standard house plug.
(4 hr charge). Also what is the procedure to connect my Mercefes Connect. Do I contact my lease company (lease plan, through NHS fleet solutions) or main dealers?
Thanks
Willow336.

I believe you contact an MB dealer to setup?

Interesting on lead times my dealer advised me that cars with certain metallic colours are taking longer than standard colours had to change my red to white due to supply of certain metallic ingredient , but then I pushed the boat and added a tow bar instead

Sounds similar to my experience. Ordering first week in January, I wanted red metallic and a delivery in April to "Shakedown" before Continental holiday in late May. For red I would have had to accept a delivery of late May. Changed to Diamond White and got a delivery of 7th April. From the sound if things, it could be earlier than that which would be lovely!

RED METALLIC PAINT + MERCEDES= NOT A GOOD COMBO :fail

Extensive history/evidence of owners of recent red mercedes having major paintwork problems requiring extensive repairs - back to metal full respray.
various threads on here about it.

That's not quite right as you're assuming the consumption rate is 1kwh. Running a kettle for four hours costs a lot more than running a 5w led bulb for the same time for example! You need to know the kWh usage during that four hours!

I checked mine early days using the meter on my charge point. From 11% start to 100% end, I used 6.4kw. I pay 8.4p per kWh so cost for me is just I've 50pence. I have a good kWh rate as I my wife has an electric car also. I believe "normal" electricity rates are close to 10p / kWh so it's likely the cost will be more like 65p for a full charge up for most people!

My 08 reg C320cdi is in Carneole Red and is still stunning (when it's clean). It's a bit more of a maroon/brown red admittedly. I've never regretted the extra 3 months wait and the cost of specifying it.

I gather that some reds are prone to fail. How times have changed; blue used to be the colour most likely to fade and rub off when polished. But that was when cellulose was the solvent....!

Just took delivery of one.
I also have 2 colleagues who have taken delivery a few months back...there are a few things you should know.
MB figures on mpg are a complete farce. If you drive really really steady you should be able to get 40 mpg average. If you put you foot down it drops to 29-30 mpg even when you have a full charge.
A full charge is averaging just 15 miles and that's it for electric range.

C350e issues

After one week, it had to go in for a software update to add external temperature facility as it did not previously exist. It has now been added to the bottom right hand corner of the total mileage display. Second week in and it has broken down with a "high voltage short to positive". I don't think the dealer knows how to fix it and is awaiting instruction from Germany. Not good. My colleagues are still waiting to be contacted for the external temperature display upgrade. One of my colleagues cars will not charge. It has been back in 3 times now and I don't think MB know what to do. The red battery warning signal keep coming up in the display with "malfunction" also being displayed. It will drive but will not charge. Mine had the same warning message but it would not move out of park so had to be towed in. My colleague has suffered with intermittent issues with being able to select drive and reverse so sounds like the same route cause issue.

The C350e is not capable of fast charge although the manual states it is. This means stopping on the m'way and charging on the go is not a possibility. If you are interested in a C350e, please ensure you ask your dealer this question. It will not accept the higher KW charge supply. I will obtain more info from my colleague as he has been involved more. The boot is very small as a result of the battery in boot. You need to see it before you order one if this is a concern but this is difficult as MB have no demonstrators.

It is a beautiful car and boy is it fast, but there are obviously some "gremlins" which still need ironing out, and they are stacking up in the workshop while we run around in hire cars. The tax benefits are fantastic but the mpg will cost you so beware. If the"red battery of death" comes on the dash board display, the dealer needs to wait on instruction from Germany so it is obvious that the UK dealerships are not geared up yet to handle problems with this model.

There is a difference between "fast" and "rapid" charging. Fast is generally considered to be using the 16amp hookups that you use with the C350e. Slow charging would be the 13amp mains plug. Rapid is just that - 0 to 80% in 30mins on a Nissan Leaf which has a battery around 4 times the capacity of the Merc. It requires a different plug to what is on the Merc and hence it can't be rapid charged.

Search for "zap map" on Google, it's a great source of info on EV's and PHEV's.

I love reading these threads. I'm intrigued by the technology of these modern motors.

Having read the C350e threads from day one I'm somewhat fascinated with owners obsession with the missing outside temp gauge. I've had outside temp on my last 4 cars and TBH I don't look at it from one year to the next with the exception of chilly days when I state the obvious to people at work "cold today isn't it?"

Regarding the MPG figures I'm somewhat amazed that all manufacturers (not just MB) get away with such misleading figures.

Ant.

I wonder if the guys on the real EU are also having problems?

Chap at work, (i wrote about how his wont charge) his is awaiting a "fix" from MB and currently in a Europcar hire car provide by our company. He's now got a a lovely Hyundai I30 S trim 1.4 petrol on steel wheels.

To say he not impressed is an under statement.

He's been told MB are unable to confirm when it will be fixed.

I see in the MB article shared in this thread that it says you cannot use an extension lead....is this just MB being cautious or is there a hidden danger.

I understand not using any old lead but surely something like the Masterplug CT1513P/IPS would be ok, it's rated to 13A and is IP54 rated.

Thoughts? For me it means I may have to get the longer 8m charge cable...which I was hoping I would need to.
