C350e anyone considering one?

Slightly anxious - my car should've been delivered to the dealer today - told lunchtime it will be with them tomorrow - hope they are not letting me down gradually !!! I don't think so. If I do collect on Wed I'll post some pics. Rolec being fitted tomorrow - very straightforward but after the grant is still costing £ 320 for a 16v.

Fingers crossed for you :)

In the meantime I will continue to hope that my council will one day respond to my request for a street charger.

I suspect that they won't and for that reason I will consider again a private installation.
To that end I wonder if you know the time / difficulties associated with your installation.
Previously we were told :
You can buy the above unit for around £450 online.

I presume that it would be simply a matter of butgeting for the cost of the electricians time and materials to provide a possible solution

Oh how I laughed at your rant when I saw you proudly drive an SL63. You must have missed that the C350e is a 2.0L petrol compared to your 5.5L. Saying the C350e is no more environmentally friendly than a diesel seems to miss the current concern over particulates.

Actually it's 6.2 litres :D

Robert

PS. I'm not the least bit concerned over particulates. With China building coal fired power stations your dpf is a 'thimble in the ocean'.

Interesting opinion about overall carbon footprint but is there any evidence to back it up. Petrol and diesel also have to be refined and transported in cargo ships.
Regarding battery technology undergoing a revolution to become tenable, if it isn't already, then surely we have to progress the technology as manufacturers are doing and not write off innovation,

I read that a Toyota Prius has enough lead, zinc, and copper - all mined, processed, and transported from south America to give it a larger carbon foot print than a Ford Focus (diesel).

"Boy, I got vision, and the electric brigade wears bifocals". (Nearly Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid!)

Cheers,
Robert

PS. I also read very recently of a new battery technology that promises to revolutionise storage. Current thinking is for applications such as mobile phones, laptops, etc, but I cannot see why it should not also be applied to cars, in time.

@ Driver 15, unfortunately I have used up my allowance of uploads on this forum so can't put anymore photos. I did post some a while back when I first got the car. Sorry

@350e

Yes, all my journeys start in electric mode as I have a home rolec charger. You get to see the recharge each time u brake or coast and the 3 quartered circle u must have seen monitors how much additional miles you have accomplished. This splits it into 3 categories, acceleration, coasting and something called balance. For instance when I did my 120 mile round journey this displayed suggested I had achieved an addition 32 miles of electric range. If u choose distronic plus again this is a clever feature as it senses the car in fronts deceleration and uncoupled the drive train so it regenerates.
Finally I also managed to set up the alert do that the car sends me an email everytime it reaches full charge!!
Any other questions please give me a shout.

Great info thanks.

In regards to photos, open a photobucket account, upload photos to there and copy and paste the img string into a forum post

I have a very straightforward installation - out of the mains fuse box through a small cloakroom and out on to the external wall. To get the grant the electrician has to complete a form showing his cost - if I get a copy I'll let you know the total cost. I suspect the total cost will be over a £ 1,000 as the grant contributes 75% and I am paying £ 320

Seems a high cost for installation but then I suppose if the stories one has read about the cost of replacing a government office light bulb it may be a similar contract :)

Apparently my delivery date is showing differently on two different systems. So still an unknown on when my car will turn up. Due date into the dealership shows as the 5th October on one and the 14th September on the other. Anyone have any idea what the other system might be?

My existing car is a lease so not sure if I've missed the boat now to extend it as it's only 8 days until it goes back to MBFS. I feel I'm stuck in limbo, unless I just resort to going to Europcar to cover me until the C350e eventually turns up.

Just spoken to my dealer regarding paperwork I need to support my installation of a home charger and he tells me that my build date is still 14th of September.

Perhaps it makes sense that they would build a batch of C350e's for the UK market together?

I know 350e's car is built on 11th so fingers crossed they all get built and shipped across.

Hoped to be built :)

Does anyone know the process today transferring my plate on the new car. Do I have to surrender the present car first ?

Very very bad experience re delivery. They told me 2 weeks ago delivery would be last week, last week delivery to the dealer would be yesterday, yesterday I was told delivery to dealer today, today - there is a fault with the car and delivery to dealer is now unknown. I think there is something seriously wrong with some of the cars and they keep pushing delivery back. I have arranged everything around the car being with me today and now I find myself with delivery being totally unknown. I have paid for the car and they are so unsure of delivery, today they said they would pay the money back tomorrow. I suspect lies, lies and more lies.

Which dealer is your car coming from ?

This sounds pretty worrying, where is your car coming from? :fail

It can be done online for £80.
https://www.gov.uk/keep-registration-number

Once done, you'll get a rentention form in the post (normally within 5 days).
Put your old plates on the car and ensure it cross references with the reg the DVLA are aware of. They'll notify you of this via post.
If you havnet got your old plates pop into the dealership you're buying your car from. They should make you up plates for free. ( they did for me). They can also fix them to your car.
At the same time give them the retention doc with your cherished reg on. That's all they need to ensure you drive away your new car with your private plate.

Thank you so much, you are a star.:)
Presumably it doesn't matter when I do it just as long as I arrange for it to be ready for the delivery date.

That is very poor.

The bet that concerns me to a certain degree is that as yet, theres still no real in depth "bulk" reviews from any UK car mag's which suggests no press cars in the UK and also not invited to any of the demo days.

It would be great to get an insight on actually how many C350e's re currently on UK soil.

I would be requesting the dealer puts you in a hire car or a demo car at their cost (including insurance until your arrives.)

Im just happy I have a fully maintained contract on mine and if anything goes wrong is not my problem to do the leg work to get it fixed etc.
