C350e anyone considering one?

Ah, some mobile networks like you to pay extra to be able to tether the data connection, which is essentially what you are doing here.

Best to check with the provider to see if that is the case.

I have been intrigued by all the options on the Comand screen, Mercedes Apps, Mercedes web site, Web and so on but every time I have tried I get the message below. My iPhone flashes a message concerning personal hotspot but I don't have a clue as to what that indicates or indeed what I need to do. Has anyone actually succeeded using any of the available features ?

Your on O2 like me and it's never worked. I believe O2 don't like the dial up type data connection the MB service makes via their network and blocks it.

If I connect the wife's 3 Network phone to the car all works perfect.

I wouldn't waste time calling O2 as they don't understand........ Anyway there is nothing really on there that you can't do faster with your phone TBH.

But doesn't all electric drive Mercs come with Remote Online? Do the apps not connect through this?

I did speak to Mercedes about this and they did indicate that the issue was with o2 and that it was being addressed by them. Seems we shouldn't hold our collective breath :)

I'm on the 3 network and the online functions work - if it's any consolation I used it once and IMO it's a bit of a gimmick. Only thing of real use is the ability to send destinations to the car but even then I find it's easier to just enter the destination when you're in the car.

Got a phone call from Lex this afternoon advising my 'In stock date' has moved back to 29th April - always knew the April 1st date was a wind up!!

Would not worry to much as I have always found lex to air on the side if caution with delivery dates.

Have you bought it outright?
Honestly, waiting that long- it always surprises me people are willing to wait even longer for a different number on the plates... Just get the car and enjoy it!
Company Car via Lex - had a chat with one of the guys from Mercedes and the reason its being pushed back all the time is Mercedes have priority over Lex - As more and more people buy from Mercedes the further out 3rd party companies waiting list goes - How true this is I'm not sure.

Who is Mercedes in this context ? Mercedes UK retail, Mercedes dealerships around the country or who ?

Hi, I work for O2, dont get my 350e till end of March, delayed 2 weeks so far and ordered September 9th.

What exactly are you trying to connect to? I've not had a chance to read the chain and dont' have the car to troubleshoot.

I can find out the ports and protocol being used if I contact Mercedes.

Thanks
Jat

Jat,

I'm not sure of the in's and outs of how the car connects to Internet using the phone as a modem, but it's not your typical 3/4G data connection more of a dial up type. It could be that the data connection is seen by O2 as a security risk and so gets blocked.

Thanks, what is the name of the app?

It's not a specific App but the Mercedes Comand Online function in its entirety.

I agree with the earlier post that said the app thing isn't worth the trouble, I tried it once and not since.

It's slow, not very user friendly and far easier just to pick up my iPhone if stationary.

I've sussed out my problem with connecting on my particular phone. After using my phone as a Bluetooth hotspot for a short time I must have ran out of my free tethering allowance, as I received a message shortly afterwards telling me I need to buy a tethering add-on. I'm on Three so it would be £5 a month but probably not really worth it!

Just hit the 2250 mile mark in my 350e, still finding the brakes are rather inconsistent and have a few niggles to get fixed, squeaky accelerator pedal and the Mercedes logo isn't glued securely on the boot on mine!

You are probably right but it just irritates me that maybe o2 have barred me its use.

2K miles in my C350e

Appreciate this won't be a great read for all the "waiters" out there (and no not the front of house staff in restaurants)

C350e Prem+, ILS, Brill Blue Estate - Northamptonshire

Having had mine for about a month now and covered 2203 miles (Can see that from the app) I wanted to give some honest feedback on where I am at.
PROS::bannana:
Drive is so smooth, power if and when you need it love the S and S+ driving mode!
Toys and gadgets, still finding new shortcuts to bits.
Comfort - Seats and settings are lovely, love the memory function and the easy exit function.
ILS - Really seeing the benefits of this and great on the country roads.
Pre Heat - Wow, just love the warmth and hassle free mornings - Bring on more frosts!!
Sound - Love the sound system.
Nav - Very clear and now getting my head around easier voice instructions!

CONS::wallbash:
MPG - I often charge mid day and do little runs around town, I then commute to Fleet (208 miles). I am not getting an average anywhere near the advertised rate....will anyone??!! (not that you would ever know as it only goes to 99.99!) (I should point out I do try and make an effort on my long run, then realise Im not getting close so on the return leg play with paddles and S option!) I do however find it odd that I can't even get mid 40's to low 50's even on a good mix of driving. My issue more than the car to be fair
No outside temp gauge - Hopefully get and update this week from Saxon to see if the dealer has an update
Cant send POI's - Have tried to send locations via the app and can't
ILS and Traffic assist - Often comes up telling me they aren't working, reset by turning engine off.
Boot - Boot is a bit smaller in terms of depth (Ordered blind in April) not a game changer but a bit disappointing.

Seems like more CONs but overall I absolutely love the car, it was well worth the 7 month wait.
Have only seen one other so far - White saloon pulling into Little billing!
Had no issues from Leasplan on set up of functions.

Ive got used to the braking, Find Eco a weird setting and misleading in terms of regenerating energy for additional miles.

I currently have the I* driving mode with Haptic on, Eco AC, Sport Steering and Sport Sus with comfort engine. I do find the C setting a bit odd on the motorways, I like the firmer steering of S mode.

Have only charged once away from home so far, having registered etc plugged in and walked away, in doing so I realised I had parked in the further bay using the nearside point - Thus looking like a complete novice and also making it difficult for an other user!! Thank fully no one came - Still learning!:doh:
