C350e owners club

I've been in touch with MB "Customer Service" about winter tyre sizes for the C350e. As you probably know, certain options on the estate model force you to have 18" wheels, and I was interested to know if I had to stick with this size for winter. There is no information in the manual or on the car.

Their reply in italic:

I can confirm that the best winter tyre for your Mercedes-Benz vehicle is the Pirelli - Sottozero 3 (95) load rating (H) Speed rating (Non Run-flat), this tyre is the same size as the tyres that are currently fitted on your Mercedes-Benz vehicle. (i.e. 225/45/18 front and 245/40/18 rear.)

My Technical Department also advised 17 inch winter tyres for your vehicle:
Front - 7J X 17 H2 ET48.5 (225/50/17 tires)
Rear - 8J X 17 H2 ET54 (245/45/17 tires)

So it would seem we can drop to 17" rims for winter which helps a bit with costs. They clearly don't want to drop from a non-staggered setup though which is a shame. Must be all that battery weight they are worried about!
The manual on command online has information re size of winter wheels and tyres for 17 and 18" setups. For 17" on doth axles... tyres:225:50 1794 94. Wheels:7.0Jx17 H2 ET 4 8.5

Thank you. I did later receive another communication from them along those lines. I wonder if they updated their information? I am using Mercedes winter wheels A2054010400 in 7 x 17 with - 225/50/17 Continentals all round and I've had no issues.

spotted an estate yesterday with the charging flap missing...

I did read various posts about folk having issues with the cover and must say, it does look flimsy. It wouldn't take much to catch it and snap it off by the look of it. I'd be very wary of using a public charger for this reason alone givne how careless and clumsy some folk can be.

Are there any updates available on teh Sat NAv - as it is unusable in its present form.

I say unusable, but that may be harsh. Long journey went to Wolverhampton races from Liverpool, pretty good as I didnt know any other way. Coming home from work it tells me to turn left when right is clearly the shortest and fastest route. Bizarre.....

Did you request Shortest or is the setting on Dynamic? Sometimes the shortest isn't the best route at the time.

I have the cheap 'Garmin' version and it is excellent. I have learnt never to ignore it. On the few occasions I thought I knew best I drove straight into traffic jams or road closures.
When coming home from Germany my sat nav took me off the autoroutes onto N roads. My colleague ignored me turning off and stayed on the autoroute. I made the booked train crossing; he missed it! His journey took almost 1 hour longer than mine!

It's not just us. I know a guy with a Mitsubishi SUV jobby, and his flap snapped off in the wind!

I think manufacturers have treated the charging flaps like a fuel flap - to be used "every so often". Whereas they are used daily, sometimes more than once. The other bad design is that our flap is part of the rear bumper. Snap your flap, and you need a new bumper + paint...

They really didn't think it through did they. Then again, they were always going to try to avoid changes to panels weren't they - keep the costs down. The VW one behind the grille badge makes sense....but then they'd have to find somewhere else for the radar module.

Can anyone confirm (from experience maybe) that a new bumper is required if the charging flap is snapped off? Just wondering as I've caught mine a few times and whilst it hasn't snapped off, it's only a matter of time! I wasn't sure whether the bit it attaches to is a part of the car or the bumper..

I managed to fit 50.21 litres of fuel into the car this morning. The most yet and not bad going for a 50 litre tank..!

A few months ago I had the "fuel depleted, e-mode only driving mode available" message but only got 45 litres in. I didn't get that this time on start up - I wonder whether the latest s/w update that I had in Nov (it added the external temp display) took this away?

C350e build date.

I am going for it.

My first Merc and its going to be a C350e premium plus with metallic brilliant blue and 360 camera.

I have been given a real good price (i think) of £413 a month on 3 + 35, 10,000 miles non maintained.

The only bit is the 16 week delivery from date of order.

Does this seem right guys?

Thanks in advance.

My charging flap snapped off (thank you Mrs H!). I lease my vehicle through work and told them to fix it under warranty (along with a couple of other minor issues), which they did, so sorry I don't know whether they had to replace the whole bumper.

Sorry to hear about the long wait. I'm no gloating, honestly, but reading about these delays makes me glad I opted for the car that was offered us from stock. Other than it having 18" wheels and no clock, it was what we specced. Happy to have avoided the new VED rules too.

Fingers crossed you get some good news and an earlier delivery than expected.

I ordered my White Premium Plus with everything but the HUD (wish I had now) in Oct. I was first told, end of Jan, then end of Feb and finally end of May.
Reading through this thread, it seems to be approx. the same wait for many.
This is not only my first Merc but first brand new car. I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas and it's a long wait still!

I recommend that you add it to your order! You won't regret it. I've had HUD on my previous car but the Merc one's is an advanced colour system that displays more useful information on a large scale.

If you wear glasses for reading but not driving, then you definitely benefit from the HUD!

Regards,

M

Anyone know what this does on the AC? The manual states there should be a Sync button where this is. Ideas?
