C350e owners club

Interesting. It's the same M274 engine, just a bit less powerful than in the C350e

...and it has the 9 speed box too. Wonder why we got the 7 speed in the 'e' version?

Comes down to what's available what's from the OEM manufacturer. The gearbox for the 350e houses the electric motor, so there's packaging/ space constraints to consider. Good news is we don't have to live with. CVT box!

The E350e gets the 9 speed too, and the same M274 engine with 211 bhp as the C350e. Maybe the facelift C350e will get the 9 speed?

Happy enough with the 7 speed I think. Can't blame it for the way it's been programmed! It's smooth enough in Comfort and Sport mode, just not Sport +

I confess I didn't really notice anything that odd about the CVT when I tried a Lexus GS450h, just that the ICE held revs.

Engine sounds.

I asked this over in the 'engines' section but didn't get any views so will ask here as a last go before I shut up and just get over it!

Your C350e.......what does the ICE sound like at idle? Ours sound like a really quite impressivley quiet diesel.

It also sounds less than sweet when revving but that bothers me less as although it just kind of drones, at least it doesn't clatter.

I'm clearly at risk of obsessing over this as I dreamt I had rejected it back to MB for this 'feature' last night. Good grief.

And while I'm in this frame of mind, someone commented before on this, it really is a bit brutal in Sport+ isn't it. The shifts, especially when coming to a stop seem unnecessarily abrupt to me. I'm happy that it'll change harder when pressing on but I really don't see why it has to be quite so raw when stopping. No need to try and emulate a clutchless sequential gearshift to make us feel it's sporty.

I will say however that I am very happy with the way it performs for what it is.

All of the reviews I read before deciding to buy the C350e said that the engine note was 'unpleasant' under load. Actually (from within the car) the reality is not as bad as I had feared. However, on tick-over the sound outside the car is horrible. Lots of 'tickety-tick, rattle, creak' noises! I'm told that this engine has a very thin water jacket (weight saving) allowing lots of internal noises to emanate, also that the turbo is mechanically noisy.

I've always been happy with the noise levels inside the car. And with it often being on battery power when it pulls away or arrives, it gives the impression of stealthy serenity so I'd never thought to stand outside while it's ticking over. OMG - what a complete tractor! Note to self - only use petrol engine at high speed.

Not just me then! Thanks for the input chaps, I can stop werreting about it now - it's a feature, sir. No denying it's a clever thing but making it sound good clearly wasn't on the spec list.

I agree that from inside, it's fine. We could always pretend it's a diesel I suppose.....

Just had the second issue Ina month with mine. Went to go out last night and had a battery symbol and 'Malfunction' displayed in the dash with the message for the car not to be towed. It wouldn't come out of park and the ICE wouldn't start (battery on 100%). Left it for an hour and still showing same issue so called Mercedes who sent out a technician this morning.

Got up this morning and thought I'd check it and it was working fine with no messages! Technician turned up and confirmed there is a HEV battery issue and off it went Ina lowloader. Now have a C220 saloon to play with until it's fixed. I'll keep you posted......

That's a bother.....(insert chosen expletive here) it only recently came back after having the charging cable done didn't it? Wonder if there's any connection?

Please keep us posted.

I find my ICE crumbles away at too low revs in Economy and Comfort mode if you're light on the throttle. Easily solved by more throttle or a flick of the paddle to change down. Really not v pleasant at 1,000 to 1.200 rpm with lean mixture. The engine smoothness (not necessarily gear changes) is transformed in Sports modes imho.

Hi Guys!

Anyone had any issues with their order being pushed back? I ordered mine at the end of October to be delivered end of February, now I'm being told its been pushed back to April/May at the earliest!

Apparently they've moved production factory of the electric components and is impacting all e model cars?

Yeah I ordered early Oct and was told delivery end of Jan, then Feb and finally end of May. 3 months to go and counting!

Indeed, had a call from MB Bath to say it's a HV battery control unit issue and they're on back order in the U.K. & Germany and he won't have an eta for a couple of days.

Looks like I'm going to be in the 220d for a while longer :wallbash: On the plus side it is nicely kitted out with premium, panoramic roof and AMG kit (I think), but I'd forgotten how noisey diesels are at tick over :D

Hi all. Ordered mine in Jan. Black, premium plus saloon. Sadly have to wait until June for delivery.... I'm driving Mrs Leo007 up the blooming wall waiting!

I had a BMW 330e MSport for a test drive over this weekend - nice but the 350e is far superior in internal quality.

Reading this thread has turned me into an MPG geek! In all seriousness the thread is amazing for getting the tips on getting the best out of my new car (when it arrives!)

Kid and bloody sweet shop.........:bannana:

These delivery times are something aren't they :(

It's certainly easy to get caught up with the mpg thing, I know we did at first, but recently we've been concentrating on getting some miles on the ICE so have stopped charging it overnight and I usually drive it in Sport to force the ICE to run all the time. Looking forward to getting back to the impressive mpg numbers again though.

Found the BMW a bit 'meh' for some reason. Was expecting more after constantly reading how wonderful BMW are according to all the car journos.

I've had two BMWs before, a diesel 1 series and a petrol 3 series touring. Both beautiful cars to drive - in a different league to the Merc. Both terribly equipped, even the 3 series that had an M-pack.

Never tried a hybrid though. I suspect there may always be a problem with the compromise of a hybrid. They're heavy and even though the Merc is great at switching between power units, it's still switching between power units.

I'd love to try a Tesla, but the cost of the batteries makes the combination of price and build quality unappealing.

It must be me, but I didn't find the BMW that special to drive. To be fair, it wasn't that long a run, and by coincidence, it was pretty much the same route as I took that same day in a GS450h and an XE so it was easy to make a comparison and the XE was the nicest drive by far for me. The C class feels good enough for me, although you do feel the weight of the batteries, particualrly in Comfort suspension settings.

I think you are right about the hybrid compromise, but I think MB have made a better job of it than the others, for me anyway. Truth is, of the 3 hybrids we tried, they were all good cars. Just preferred the MB overall.

Still find myself lusting after the XE-S or a Tesla S but the I-Pace is looking interesting....

I must have been really lucky! My estate was ordered at the beginning of December 2016 and it was delivered on 18th January.

Lucky you!

I have been in touch with MB and they say possible mid May now rather than end of June..... better than a kick in the stones I suppose
