C350e owners club

Ordered mine October 5th, delivery due May 15th, parts delay at factory I was told..

I must have been really lucky! My estate was ordered at the beginning of December 2016 and it was delivered on 18th January.

That was lucky! A cancelled order or in stock maybe?? All good either way though.

We had a stock car - no doubt unsold because it had 18" rims so no £2k5 grant. We got a modest discount so decided to jump the wait (and the new VED rules).

As I understand it, a build slot had unexpectedly become available at the assembly plant and I think it was simply a case of right-place, right-time. If you take into account a minimum of one week's plant closure over Xmas, that still makes it about 6 weeks from order to delivery - not bad!

It must be me, but I didn't find the BMW that special to drive. To be fair, it wasn't that long a run, and by coincidence, it was pretty much the same route as I took that same day in a GS450h and an XE so it was easy to make a comparison and the XE was the nicest drive by far for me. The C class feels good enough for me, although you do feel the weight of the batteries, particualrly in Comfort suspension settings.

I think you are right about the hybrid compromise, but I think MB have made a better job of it than the others, for me anyway. Truth is, of the 3 hybrids we tried, they were all good cars. Just preferred the MB overall.

Still find myself lusting after the XE-S or a Tesla S but the I-Pace is looking interesting....

The XE looks good on the road, but I thought the dashboard was nothing special, and the rear legroom was very poor. I-Pace does look very good!

I would have been interested in a 330e, having come from a 320d, but I fancied a change. Alfa Giulia looks great inside and out. I can't imagine them doing a hybrid anytime soon, but a 2.0 petrol with 280bhp sounds quite appealing. (Can't really stretch to the full QV beast sadly).

I think we must have similar tastes. The XE dash was a bit dull compared to the C, but I don't care about rear seat space at all so what with the drive, the looks and the supercharged V6 it was hard to resist. The C350e was the most sensible option of those we were looking at, that we 'fancied'.

Giulia- yes indeed. Shame they aren't doing a milder V6 version but a 280bhp multiair will probably work well. I think the QV would be mighty, but I don't need 500bhp.

Yeah I ordered early Oct and was told delivery end of Jan, then Feb and finally end of May. 3 months to go and counting!

Not just me then - It can be a little frustrating all this waiting around.

I've been given a 1 litre ford focus as a temporary until my 350e arrives.. So kind of them!

Is anyone finding that off-peak charging can't be controlled by the web app any more?

There seems to have been an update that I didn't notice straight away. It's changed the peak/off peak controls so it's deleted the previous settings. I've tried resetting them so that the car only charges after 1am, but the web app won't save the setting and the car charges as soon as it's plugged in. The help in the web app is non-existent and I've tried every way I can think of to set off-peak charging, so pretty much the only thing I use it for is broken.

New C350e owner: OAT indication; oil pump and water temperature

Hi all,

My C350e estate arrived 10 days ago and it now has just over 1300 miles on it. It's been used mostly for long runs but with overnight charging whenever possible, at 32A I'm pleased at how fast it charges. Overall I'm happy with it and it certainly goes like stink in sport+

A few questions to those who've owned for a bit longer:
- How do I get the bottom left of the central display to show OAT rather than kph?
- Does the ICE use an electrical oil pump and water pre-heat to get around the stop/start wear and tear?
- I've got a tech suggestion for M-B, is there an email address to send such things to?

Dave

OAT is only shown on the main odometer page, that's it. An older software version didn't have one at all!

By the way the maximum charge rate for the C350e is 16A or around 3.6kWh. shame it doesn't support 32A / 7kWh as that would mean a 45 min charge time.

The main cooling system pump is electrically powered and there has to be soem sort of heating element in there for the pe climate but I too would be interested to know if it does any pre heating to help with wear. Pretty certain that the ICE oil pump is purely mechanical though.

I too have some (polite!) suggestions to make so also interested in an address.

10 days and 1300 miles - well done! We've had ours since 17th December and only on 900 miles so far :(

300 miles a month?
It would be cheaper to have a chauffeur! :D

My old 320ED had electric water and oil pumps. I'd be surprised if the Merc doesn't have the same. If it doesn't, I'll be wincing even more when it stop starts when it's clap cold! At least the BMW was very selective about when it would stop start.

I know, it's shocking isn't it :o. There are times I wonder why we even have a car.

Even worse....we have two other cars (and I soon start construction of yet another), although one only does 6 months of the year. Plus, I can't quite see myself using the C350e saloon as a replacement for hauling crap like the Jeep does.

I've no doubt we could do all this much more cheaply, but it isn't all about that for us really. We'd certainly never have bought a new car if it was - high price to pay for that particular luxury.....

ETA i haven't been able to find any specific info for the hybrid version of the M274. A quick look reveals it has no accessory belt or conventional alternator and that the waterpump and A/C compressor are both electrically powered from the HV system battery (bright orange wires). Oil pump could be different I suppose, but I suspect it isn't as that would require a major re-work. Waterpump is easy of course as it just bolts on.

Wish we could get more detailed info on this car.

Hmm, maybe I don't have the latest S/W version because I can't find OAT. Assuming we both understand the same thing by "main odometer page" I have kilometres/hour at bottom left and don't seem to have a way to change it. How do I check the S/W version and find out what the latest version is?

Re charge rate: thanks, 'twas a brain f@rt.

It's this one:

I hadn't spotted that so I checked - mine's the same. Does the OAT pop up on other screens when the temperature gets down to freezing?

I think the book says that the km/h indication at bottom left can be changed to OAT but not for the UK market. Strange if true.

No. You get no notice about freezing temperatures. This is a Mercedes, not a 1993 Vauxhall!

Mercedes UK give some cobblers about an EU ruling which says a KM/H speed has to be available. That's why we have a permanent KM/H reading. It sounds a load of rubbish to me, but that's what they are sticking to, so there you go. We're just the customers.

I read on another thread here that you can apparently get the UK spec. 'Deleted' which removes the persistent kph reading which in turn leaves OAT on display??.

That's interesting, do you have a link?
I wonder what else goes if the "UK spec" goes?

I wonder if this is an individual setting parameter or a "UK spec" setting ... perhaps there's an OBD scanner that will allow this setting to be changed, or something an independent dealer would do.

Indeed, had a call from MB Bath to say it's a HV battery control unit issue and they're on back order in the U.K. & Germany and he won't have an eta for a couple of days.

Looks like I'm going to be in the 220d for a while longer :wallbash: On the plus side it is nicely kitted out with premium, panoramic roof and AMG kit (I think), but I'd forgotten how noisey diesels are at tick over :D

Update: picked up my car today after being in for a week. New control unit fitted (£1300 apparently) and rear cables changed due to corrosion (which I thought they did last month?) all done under warranty.

They also Sis about 5 different software updates on SatNav, transmission, battery control unit etc.

So far so good.
