This is very true!

Next time you go out for dinner leave the car plugged in at home and have a big bottle of wine :D

Ah but what if you drive to a town to have dinner and arrive with no charge.

Before - Charge for free
After - Charge for £1

It's not a huge cost but nothin and paying something seem like such a world apart eh? ;)

Jamie

Charging a PHEV at home is a no-brainer. It's cheaper than petrol and it's almost certainly better for the environment than petrol. Add solar PV or economy 7 to the mix and it gets even better.

Charging away from home is a different thing. It's not cheaper any more, so the argument is about the environment. Consumers can care about the environment and choose to pay 20p+ per kWh. The government should care as well, given the court cases they're losing about poor air quality and the fines that would be looming if we weren't leaving the EU. What are they going to pay?

To be fair, a PHEV that hasn't been plugged in is probably the least of their worries compared to trucks, taxis, and gas heated buildings, but maybe if free or subsidised charging was available by being bundled with paid parking...

I have had the clunk. It seems that the engine is runnin when the ed rive is active. Really the engine should cut out when coasting and it doesn't the edible kicks in and the engine revs raise you get the clunk. Seems to me the whole system is out of sync.

Oh the joy of Spring! Battery lasting longer: Commute this morning, ambient temperature 11.5 C, 34 miles, 76.3mpg, ave speed 43mph. Mixture of built up, rural and motorway driving, with a bit of Sports+ action thrown in. App is estimating 16 miles of range when fully charged at work and I reckon it won't be far from that figure this afternoon on journey home.

Mine has an intermittent yellow engine light currently. Needs some new throttle actuator cabling apparently...

I've taken my winter wheels off this week. Other than a few days I haven't really needed them but the new Continental TS860 was very good as an all round tyre. I'd have quite happily left them on to be honest, but it's daft wearing them out for the sake of it. They gave a much better ride than the 18s that have gone back on.

If it snows this weekend you know who to blame! :p

5 years ago and 2 days... it snowed here in yorkshire... I got stuck in my BMW which i had put back on its summer wheels...

I had to put some of that petrol stuff in the car today. It doesn't happen so much these days.

On the plus side, 120miles at 45mpg in relaxing comfort was a breeze.

I wonder what's going on with this app?

It's working fine for me today - I'm tracking location, range, trip details, etc...

Any app supported by a multinational corporation should have a maximum of a few minutes downtime when they release major upgrades. The idea of having a day or more of downtime is ridiculous.

I've noticed tonight it's updated the eco stuff, fuel tank level, trip mpg etc but doesn't show charging and charging finished emails aren't coming through, had to manually check it was done.

For anyone still wondering about fuel consumption, I've just completed a 400+ mile trip, 50% motorway at 70mph, no charging after departure:

MPG - averaging 49.5 over 5,000 miles

Hello all, especially Cross1880 - you'll love it.

Re: Dodgy's post above, mid-40s for a trip like that is my experience too.

Now done 5000 miles since getting a saloon on 17" wheels in January and I've averaged 49.5mpg. I'm pretty pleased with that.

That's been mostly in ECO mode over a mix of motorway and B roads with a charge every day and a long distance motorway trip every other week. Bit of city driving and the odd jolly in Sport.

My daily commute is a 70 mile round-trip, about 25 miles country B roads, 45 miles motorway at 70mph. Some decent hills up and down in amongst that. All in ECO, driving pretty gently at 70mph but not quite Miss Daisy.

Outward bound with a full charge can be anything from 56 - 68mpg. Usually about 44 on the way back (no charging at work yet), so averaging over 50. Definitely improving as the weather turns and temperature goes up.

I've not found that it's worth using the SatNav, I get the same average whether I use it or not and as others have pointed out, you can beat it if you want to switch modes yourself. I've just left it in Hybrid and let it sort itself out.

I'm finding driving smoothly and anticipating to try to be economical as much fun as hooning it. Well, nearly as much.

Cheers all.

That seems reasonable, was the fuel tank full at start / empty at the end or could have continued driving further?
