C350e owners club

The reason I was turning off HVAC until coolant temperature rose was because it seems to drain the battery more if you leave it on when the engine is cold. I'll lose interest in playing around soon, but I am enjoying discovering the ins and outs of the car! I came from a BMW diesel before and that had an electric heater element so was pretty good at warming the cabin from cold.

One thing I still can't work out though is on the sat nav (I have the latest version of the Garmin one). It occasionally says "Alternative route available saving 7 minutes" or similar. It the has a grey box with a road junction in it on the left side of the screen. However, I can't work out how you can see or select that alternative route?

E-Save!! :D
Or pre-heat from your app.

Can't help with the Garmin question I'm afraid. Mine's TomTom.

Hi All,

Well I have the delivery date for my Nissan Leaf so my Merc will be going back in just under 3 weeks time.

It's the first time that I have felt something other than total excitement at my company car replacement and it's all down to the Merc being such a lovely car and holding a different level of prestige to the Leaf, certainly going to miss it sitting on our driveway :(

I am looking forward to the fully electric experience and the extra toys that the Leaf is bringing.

The Merc is comfortable, reasonably practical, a joy to drive....but the in car entertainment is poor, the sat nav is frustrating (especially he touch thing....."turkish i" and "dash" are two misinterpretations it would regularly do) and the electric side of it is not advanced, when the engine starts from cold people have been known to mistake it for a diesel. Oh and Mercedes Me.....absolutely terrible.....BUT.....speaking to the Nissan and VW owners, not that much worse than those offerings.

I have recorded my fillups for the past few years and I don't think I will be making any more recordings so here are some stats you might be interested in:

Over nearly 31,000 miles the car has averaged 70mpg (actual calculation not trip computer, but that's not far off with 70.79mpg). I have averaged 540 miles between fillups, with 318 "engine off" miles on average for each of these fillups. My record was 1132 miles between fillups which was Summer 2018 after I got my second set of batteries (replaced under warranty). So 44% of my miles were under petrol power and 56% under electric.

Thanks for the report. That's excellent overall mpg! I'm sure you won't miss visiting a filling station with the Leaf.

See if I can remember this correctly....

When this message comes up click down on the rotary control, you should then get a menu up, click on traffic, then on notifications and you should then get two options up - current route and alternative route - you can then toggle between the two to change to the alternative one if you wish.

The Garmin Sat Nav is pretty naf imho

Sickening.

My Merc was stolen last week so I'm on a look out for a new car, after reading your post I checked out the Nissan Leaf, and it look quite good.
Have you test drive it?

Hi there,

I did test drive it yeah and it's pretty good, feels like a normal car really....didn't hoof it but have been a passenger in a colleagues and the torque is instant. It would beat my c350e 0-30.

It's worth checking out, I expect it will be a bit more plasticity (though I do have the top Tekna spec so that should help) but Nissan are experts in EV technology now so good realiability....and things like a dealer who has a chargepoint and fully gets the electric side.

There are also the Kona and Niro which have longer lead times but are SUV types with longer range and a bit more pole. It was the lead times that were the problem here, like with the c350e in its early days these are 2020.

My car is nearly 4 years old, is there any news on when we can order the C300e? Otherwise I might have to go with the E300e but is does not come in brilliant blue.

Do you mean the C300de? I’ve heard nothing since they said orders from summer 2019. Just out of interest, would you consider an EQC?

Having had a C350e and now an E350e, I would say definitely live with the cavansite blue and get a better (but more expensive) car.

Anyone else having issues accessing your car via Mercedes Me - not been able to set the pre-entry climate control for about a week now?

Mine got a lot better after I got the dealership to upgrade the software on the Hermes module as part of its first service in January. I was recommended to ask for this by the app’s technical support.

I can certainly share those frustrations with you. It has one of the clumsiest in car entertainment I have come accross.

The noise from the engine when starting from cold is worse than a diesel at times. And the satnav is the worse thing about the car. At least on mine with Audio 20 although it may be better on cars with Command?

What mpg does the C350e just on petrol? Is it comparable with the C200se figures?

It’s hard for someone who plugs in to say what the economy without plugging in. In nearly 3 years, I’ve only once had a journey that started and finished with 10% charge and it was so long ago I can’t remember the results. There’s probably quite a lot of stuff near the top of this thread though...

Lots of 45mpg quotes at the top of the thread. Sounds about right. The best I’ve done was 55mpg. The worst was in the low 40s. Both with a full charge and a 100 mile plus journey.

After 13,000 miles, I have accurate records for about 11,500 miles. I’ve averaged 53mpg over that. I start with full charge and commute to work where I can recharge for the journey home. On a 20 mile commute, I’m averaging 76mpg and arrange it so I arrive with 10-15% charge. On other journeys, I try to recharge at the destination. I invariably do this for free. Longer journeys are not so good. On a 150 mile trip, I’ll manage about 44mpg. I find that the fuel type doesn’t make any measurable difference to economy. To be honest, it’s better than I expected and not bad for a 270odd HP car that will do 0-60 in close to 6 seconds.

So, is buying a C350e worth the extra expense (compared to buying a C200 SE or Sport)? I do have a charging point at work but not at home. I'm not sure of this car comes with an adapter that allows you to plug it into your home grid?
