C350e owners club

Hi Everyone.
I just wanted a bit of advice and this seems to be the thread to ask on!
Im about to bite the bullet and buy a c350e. I really wanted the AMG pack as the interior looks great but it seems the 18 inch rims push the emissions over 50g CO2 which wont meet my tax requirements.
Anyway, just before i sign i just wanted to know a bit of general feedback if possible. It seems theres a lot of issues with starter motors and leaking as well but are these common - it seems that no ones actually happy with their car the more i read through the thread! Its kinda giving me second thoughts but the c300e doesnt seem to be in my price range and not keep on leasing
This isn't a bad compilation of Merc C 350e PHEV questions.

@dasachmo, I think Chris summed it up very nicely there. I only have mine since December (2020) so my experience is very limited. So far I am very happy with it. I started out looking for a petrol estate version but they are pretty rare here. Plenty of used diesel versions (mainly Irish cars with some imports) and lots of PHEVs imported from the UK.
Even though I hadn't planned going anywhere near EV, I instantly took to the EV driving experience so much so that I will possibly go full EV next time. The only downside being the very short battery range (but most of my journeys we do are well inside it).
Having gone from two very reliable but boring cars (Honda petrol and VW diesel), I am happy to be in something much more interesting and fun.
I fully expect to have some issues with this car but overall on balance I think it will be worth it. If someone is looking for reliability and a car that doesn't require too much thought then they would be better off with something like a Lexus hybrid.

Tested again, the passenger seat heating always turns on, there is no difference between the ‘entire vehicle’ and the ‘driver side only’ settings.
Can I ask you gents to try it out and let me know, please? Based on the link above, it’s hard to believe that two of us having this weird issue and rest of the owners don’t experience this.

Has anyone tested this?

TRY PULLING THE FUSE?
I can try the fuse but it doesn’t seem to be an issue with the car itself, it’s more likely a software glitch.
CaptainChaos said he doesn’t have issues with the ‘drivers only’ and ‘entire vehicle’ setting and based on the photo he attached earlier I believe he’s got a Command system. I have Audio20 and the settings look a bit different. This might explain why he doesn’t have problems and I do. Is your pre-entry climate control working alright?

Don't have a C350e but I imagine the circuitry is similar on all W205 models--- powering down might just reset things or act as a temporary fix till you get it on STAR?

Thanks for the advice guys.
So I've decided to take the plunge and been offered a 17 plate c350e AMG premium 14k miles for 22k
They also have a 17 plate night edition premium plus with 17k miles for 20k
Just wondering is the AMG pack worth it for anyone who might have one vs the night edition premium plus.

Good stuff Dasachmo. I have neither the AMG version or the Night Edition. I would think the answer comes down to your own personal taste. I viewed and test drove 4 different cars, including the AMG and just preferred the exterior look of the standard sport from the outside. The others were just too flash for my taste. So for me the AMG would not be worth the extra 2k but I suspect that might be a minority view on this forum.

As mentioned, it's personal preference. AMG trim might have slightly higher CO2 if that needs to be taken into account as it will have larger wheels.

I would go for the car in the best condition/history/price.

My Sport had the larger wheels that took it over the 50g threshold so I didn't get the govt subsidy. It was a stock car so I didn't have a choice, well, other than to not buy it, which of course I now wish I hadn't as any regulars will know :)

Mine had 18" wheels because it is an estate with a sunroof and they wouldn't spec an estate with a sunroof and 17" wheels.

But guess what size winter wheels they specify.... :rolleyes:o_O;)

Aww that's a shame.
I'm going for the test drive on Sunday.
Apparently the tax rules are changing in April so at least there's some subsidy now, neglible afterwards.
So I'm going to ask about the sd card with the Garmin update.
I was told by a friend to buy the paint guard coating (but another said don't)
Any other pearls of wisdom specific to a c350e or even buying a car from merc? (my work colleagues say I'm crazy from buying from mb and should look at car giant but for a car like this I'd prefer dealer... I haven't bought a car since 2013 and my c320 diesels given up the ghost!)

Oh and I read this on another post and it seems there isn't a way but is there a way of checking battery degradation or if there's any faults ?

You need the Star system to do a proper HV battery diagnostic I believe, although I did read you can look at voltage on individual battery modules using the iCarsoft (although I couldn’t make that work myself).

Make sure to start the engine while outside the car to see if you can live with the noise. Just pop it in Sport mode to force it to start, although I suspect it’ll have a flat HV battery anyway as the dealers don’t seem to care or understand the need to charge them so it’ll probably start up anyway.

I see that MB Club has installed the new precognition upgrade...

Do any of the cars you are looking at have Comand rather than Audio 20? That would swing it for me.

I agree I would prefer a full MB warranty on one of these, but I do remember there was an independent Mercedes dealer who seemed have loads of these cars. I can't remember what they were called, but they were London way.

Thanks for that. It's the kind of advice I'm looking for because I didn't even think to check... It's audio 20 unfortunately but it's direct from mb so used approved.
I haven't seen the car yet but the salesmans sent me a form to sign for gap insurance at £1210 for 2 years.

Wow, that gap insurance is expensive. I paid £360 for 3 years on a brand new one. Not from the dealer I might add.....

Premium Plus gets you the COMAND I think. Did on ours anyway.

Hi All, been a while since I've logged in to catch up with the forum chats, for some reason this forum is no longer available on tapatalk which is what I use for all the forums and didn't realise it till last week as work has been mental busy with this virus (work as a nurse) 🙄...
Anyway, its a month of highs and lows... For the high point (pic attached), upgraded my grill to the GT panamericana 2018 version.. Some days I love it and other days I'm not so sure ( let me know your thoughts).. Didn't put on that Amg badge as its not an amg but it is different, my thought process on the grill change was that the C350e is a unique model of C Class and therefore it should have a unique styling imo... I plan on experimenting with using the eqpower emblem as a grill badge in place of the amg logo 🤔, I have both ordered so will hopefully have them soon.. (thoughts?)..

Now the low part of the month and not related to the grill change,
Was heading out my drive in the car last week and got that dreaded "Stop - Car Too Low", yes my air suspension was deflated.. So call to the AA, 1.5hrs trying to get the car onto a low loader tow truck without damaging it.. One week on and have the car back with a new compressor fitted and I'm €1000 out of pocket 😔😭..
Fingers crossed nothing else happens, although the drivers door has started not wanting to open when I unlock the car, have to lock and open again 🙄..

Cheers Gar

That looks amazing.
Mine arrives tomorrow - second hand one.

There's plenty out there so don't rush in to it. My preference would be a Premium Plus model with wood trim as the standard high gloss black plastic doesn't do the interior any favours in my opinion. The matt (plastic) wood smartens things up and brings an analogue clock!

If you are buying from a dealer, stress that you want all the software updating to the most recent versions including the sat nav, and would they check that all recalls/updates have been done. Also investigate the service pack pricing which allows you to pay for the servicing monthly and often works out cheaper.
