C350e owners club

Now I understand why no one likes Audio20.
Still don’t think it’s a lack of feature tho...the option is there in the menu along with some unknown bugs...

Yeah that's the exact issue with mine seekay. Like yourself, I tried it over and over again fooling myself thinking that my fingers will be quick enough next time and it won't bounce back!

It is something that doesn't bother me hugely but if you do find a solution I would certainly also try to implement it/ have it implemented.
Seems like there are only a few options left:

1. Accept this software bug and just simply live with it
2. Contact the customer service who already advised me today to visit the local dealer who will then try to milk you with diagnostic charge but nothing is going to change in the end
3. Petition to MB to fix it for free of charge as a recall
4. Retrofit a COMAND infotainment screen
(5. Sell it, get a Lexus and enjoy the hassle-free life)

Realistically it sounds like 1 & 5 are your options.
Out of interest do we know what is the breakdown between cars that have Comand and Audio20? Also, why weren't all cars installed with Comand?

6) Be grateful this is all you have to worry about. ;)

I know it's annoying, but is it really worth all this fuss? Selling the car because of it?!
All that's happening is that the passenger seat is coming on. When you get in the car you can lean across and switch it off. Once the weather warms up you won't be pre-heating anyway.

COMAND vs Audio 20?? Headology pure and simple. There can’t be more than a few quid difference between actual hardware costs but put in a (slightly) bigger screen and a couple of extra features and you’ve generated an upgrade people will pay through the nose for. Combine that with some carefully thought out package bundling and you sell people a load of stuff they don’t want to get one or two things they do, and make a much bigger profit while you do it. Totally standard practice in this industry and many others.

@seekay Sensible option is to accept it and move on I suppose. Any heat going into the seat ends up in the cabin anyway, so it isn’t lost energy. An IS300h sounds appealing though. I did look at one before buying my C350e but didn’t much like the American style interior. Wish I'd got over that!

True, not worth it but I just hate things when they don’t work as they’re supposed to.
I wish this was the only one but there are a few other things as well, eg:
- rough gear changes on the first 50 yards after the engine started, hopefully a transmission oil change would sort this out but it could also be just another £400 out the window
- the suspension seems to be 7 mm lower on the near side for some reason, there is no air leak and it’s always like that even when the engine is running, all driving modes, fully lowered and fully raised settings, there is always a few mm difference. Doesn’t affect the cars handling, just strange.

@seekay How did you discover the suspension is lower in one side? You have just given me another activity 🤔, which is always good in these times. Out of interest I will check whether I have a similar issue. I take it you measure from the top of the tyres to the wheel arch?

On a separate note, had an opportunity so brought my car in to main dealer where I bought the car and they are consulting with Mercedes on the yellow EML. Haven't gotten my iCarsoft delivered yet.

I suppose you would need the car on a perfectly flat surface and measure from the wheel arch to the centre of the hub. I think it would be difficult to measure accurately against the tyre.

I wonder if the car senses body attitude as well as suspension position?

That makes sense about measuring to the centre of the hub. Will need the spirit level as well to ensure I have a flat surface!!

Yeah that’s what I did, measured from top of the tyres to the wheel arch. I don’t know how I discovered it, I’m always looking for faults in the car, bad habit I know. 😃

@Chris-S
I found the IS300h way too small and tight in the driver area, the ES300h is a lot more spacious. But this time we are after a more comfortable options for the future and the NX300h and RX450h are the winners at the moment.

To be honest, I’m getting worried a little bit. Just read this nightmare with the charging port and false cable detection in the other thread, I don’t know how common is but we need a reliable car, usually twice a year we go to Europe for a family visit, 1200 miles each way. If something similar happened in the middle of nowhere it would easily turn our holiday into a nightmare and breakdown cover isn’t a solution for such parts. I have 2,5 years RAC warranty but it’s not covered everything either.

The way things are going, your RAC warranty will have expired by the time we are allowed to go gallivanting around europe :(

I'd want a decent recovery option for driving in europe no matter what I was driving. If you have it serviced by MB at least you get Mobilo cover. Arguably not a bad deal if you plan trips like that.

Not sure what the nightmare with the charging port is, but at 1200 miles each way, would not being able to charge make much difference?

I meant another C350e user posted that his car wouldn’t start as it detected the cable was attached to the charging port when actually wasn’t.

@Chris-S
We’ve been doing these trips for more than 8 years now, always had German cars, Audi and BMW, just regular diesels, had a standard European breakdown cover and that’s it, we never had any concerns until we got this car, but here I saw so many stories...
For example is there any sign that the AIRMATIC will go wrong soon or just suddenly happens without any prior warning or symptoms?
Saw in this forum some users had “Car too low, STOP” message on dash... hopefully I never have to read this. When I take the car to an annual service and they do the vehicle health check it would turn out if there will be some problem with the suspension in the near future?

I wouldn’t expect a thorough check of anything unless you explicitly asked them to do it, and even then....

I think we’ve identified the following issues with the cars that are not common as such, but do come up. Starter motor, fuel line across the back of the engine, charge port on early cars (should all have been fixed within warranty), air suspension compressor connector water ingress needing a new compressor and part-loom.

We’ve seen maybe 2 HV battery problems on here?

Other things are common to any car, let alone an MB.

If you have that little confidence in the car then it probably is time to move on and get something else. I do share your nervousness about it though, but I'm not going to spend even more on a warranty.
