C350e owners club

I had a Prius a few years ago and I don't remember a delay. I wonder if the reversing camera causes the delay? Opening the lens cover and displaying the obligatory warning probably take longer than changing gear

I'll be driving my Dad's Fabia Monday with it's DSG box, a bit of a different beast but will try and check it for lag between reverse and drive.

The hold facility on the brake pedal isn't that easy to activate, I find I have to release pressure and reapply fairly quickly to activate, sometimes resulting in the car jolting forward. The VW system is better where it apples the auto hold, automatically on application of the brakes once the car comes to a standstill. Maybe I haven't quite got the knack yet though with around 6000 miles in the car, it shouldn't be that tricky to use.
I have never put my car into park and I've owned it since November. I use "hold" whenever I'm stopped at lights and have never had the slightest problem activating - just a quick firm push on the pedal, even if I've had to be fairly heavy on the brakes to stop due to leaving it a little late.. It also means you can get an even quicker start from the lights if you need to!

If I'm in traffic I don't even use the hold function - the adaptive cruise does it all for me and if I need to tell the car to pull away again, a quick pull on the cruise lever means I don't even need to press any pedals. At this rate of technology progression I'll be sitting in the back of my next car while it drives me to work! ;)

You haven't got the hang of it yet, as it's the simplest thing you can operate on the car, even easier than indicators! :)

With your foot already on the brake pedal, just give it a quick sharp dab.

I find the 'hold' even simpler than my old Audi and I never use Park except for when I am 'parked'.
Regarding TheCorm's comment about the speed of gear change - this is a really fast 'box. The delay you are describing might be because you are in 'Comfort' mode. If you want maximum power in comfort mode the engine may have to start first obviously causing a delay. Simply put the car into Sport or Sport+ and you will never complain of slow acceleration!

I see there is now an app for both Iphone and android. Looks pretty smart! I was going to post this as a new thread, but don't know how to do this!

Thanks for the info on the hold with a firm application of the brake pedal. I'll try that.

I also had a Prius with hard a Park button on the dash and going into Drive was immediate although only 96 BHP.

I'll try the hold method and see how I get on.

There is no gear setting when setting the individual options though so is this all part of the engine setting? I only use Sport or Sport + for swift overtaking or weekend fun, I am on a mix of eco and comfort settings for the daily commute.

I've tried hold. Works well just sometimes you don't apply the brake hard enough it roles.

Much better than Park to Drive though.

Err - sport mode changes the speed of activating reverse gear? Puzzled...

Guys, hope to be an owner in a couple of weeks. Car being built tomorrow then hope to have it about 15th July.

Can you tell me what the difference is between Sport and Sport+?

I am at head office tomorrow afternoon if you wanted to have a go and find out for yourself.

Thanks Sean but I am in London tomorrow, just wondering if there is much difference really between them.

Had mine 10-days. Only done 350 miles since delivery. Lots of short trips to the station a few 10 mile journeys and a couple of 80 mile trips. Averaging 55mpg. Trip says engine has been off for approx 50% of the total mileage so far.

"Particularly"!

Sport = sporty driving characteristics
Sport+ = particularly sporty driving characteristics

Thanks Mercedes! [emoji3]

I think there are two differences:
1. Firmer suspension in +
2. Petrol engine stop/start disabled in +

I've just RTFM. Unbelievable. It's true. My humble apologies for doubting you @wrighty senior! I'll be engaging sport mode next time I wish to reverse onto my drive.

I hope that doesn't lead to a number of c350e's becoming an extension to peoples front porches :D

I gotta say, the MPG of this car is really starting to piss me off.

It's a good car but unless you're only making 10-15 mile trips with charging at each end the economy is a joke.

The car is a fantastic piece of engineering but weirdly for an eco car the economy is actually one of the worst performing aspects.

tuning Box

It arrived on Saturday morning as planned but installation was too daunting.

There are two plugs that need to be removed and connected to the chip box, the first is accessible but the second is under the charge cooler which you have to remove and I didn't fancy this.

The instructions are basically just photos.

I rang TDi Tuning and have arranged to have them fit it week after next when I can be near Chelmsford on business.

It looks a quality unit and technical support was available over the phone but to be honest I didn't want to be dismantling things that potentially I might not be able to get back together and as fitting is free is a bit of a no brainer.

They threw in a 200 mm extension lead which would allow easier removal in future for servicing etc.

Spoke to their tech director again who said the C350e is perfect for tuning with the huge amount of torque from the motor and the ease of uprating the BHP from the engine, can't bloody wait!

Did you manage to get the tuning box fitted Yet, If so what difference did it make?

I'm more than happy - I have a 25 mile journey each way to work, half of it is motorway, half is side or main roads. I charge at home only each night yet I'm averaging 65mpg for these journeys. Longer journeys (i.e. weekends away) of several hundred miles where I can't charge are returning around 48mpg.

It's all about how you drive with this car - use sport / sport plus all the time, heavy acceleration and you get mpg in the 20's..

Additionally, the company car tax saved due to the reported emissions mean its costing me less than my previous car!

I'm only a week into my c350e experience. Longest journey so far is only about 40miles, so my economy is just fine.

I guess every car is a compromise and long distance economy wasn't a priority for this one. You could get a BMW i3 REX, but it's a bit smaller or go full electric but none of them give me what I need for a price I can afford.

And the Merc is a fantastic bit of kit.
