C350e owners club

305 miles round trip from South London, to Halesowen (there's a theme going on here) and back. Planned with only a full charge on setting out. Decided to see if I could set it to use the battery as it deemed most suitable. Worked perfectly with Connect and the 'green halo', by setting home as my destination but set up an intermediate destination of Halesowen. It worked a treat. Will next do it between home and work. Worth a go. Car was fantastic and at a tidy pace on cruise control, not wishing to incriminate myself, returned 42.5 mpg. That's pretty impressive I think for a car with this performance. Happy.

Rather than driving off from HOLD, I tend to prefer tapping the brake pedal again which deactivates hold. I think this gives a smoother take off, however, when I want to take off quickly I will go straight to the accelerator

Nice tip! But sometimes my brake pedal pressure to engage and disengage hold requires more than a tap; more like a press with full body weight. But not every time....

Clearly Halesowen is the in place to be!

Have taken some photos of my chip installation and will post when I can work out how to do it :)

Performance is much stronger.

Will take the chip off over the weekend to see how much difference there is, it's pretty quick normally anyway as we know.

Winter tyres

Hello everyone. New member here. This thread has been very useful whilst I've been waiting for my car to come, so thank you! One thing it hasn't answered is winter tyre sizes. I was hoping the car handbook would help, or the sticker on the filler flap, but neither give a winter size which is very unusual.

For clarity, my car is an estate with sun roof so I had to have the staggered 18" wheel set up. Given that neither the car or the handbook show an alternative size for winter tyres, is the assumption that I should retain the same sizes for winter? All my previous cars have always listed an alternative size. I would prefer to go to a non staggered 17" option, but not if it's wrong. I don't want to invoke insurance or warranty issues by just making it up as I go along.

Does anyone have a definitive answer, or know anyone at Mercedes who might actually know what they are on about?

Thanks!

I've never had a problem and the push to engage the hold function requires no real effort whatsoever in my car - certainly nothing like a press using full body weight! I have noted that it seems to be the swiftness of the push rather than the effort involved - if you push slowly, you can push as hard as you like and still not engage the hold function, however if you give a very light but quick push down on the pedal once you've stopped, the hold engages immediately.

I've never tried tapping the pedal to release the hold, I find using the accelerator is more than smooth enough for me!

Hi,

I'm using a standard 13A socket at the moment with the charger set to kick out a low current, which I think is 8A. I only charge overnight because I don't have solar electric and I have an economy 7 tariff, so speed isn't important.

It's a bit of a pain running the cable from the garage - but I probably only waste a minute a day plugging in and unplugging. And if I wanted to top-up the charge in a short gap between trips the extra rate of charge might make a difference, but that rarely happens.

I fastened the brick to the inside of the garage, leave it switched on, and have the yellow curly cable coming through a hole in the side of the garage. I put a hook on the outside wall and took the rubber cover off the Mode 3 cable and put it on this one to give it a bit of protection. That way I don't have to do any faffing about with the charger, or opening the garage up. I reverse up to the garage, and plug in. Dead easy, and so far it's coped with all the lovely summer weather we've had too!

Don't know about a definitive answer...
Mine is a saloon on 17". Last year I visited Mercedes Ashford Kent. They took the cars VIN and advised a set of non staggered rims with 225/50/17 tyres

Got the same car as yours but haven't gone into the question of winter tyres so can't answer the question you pose. But have you tried looking up the question in the Digital Owners manual? Available in the car or on-line. I've found the answers to a couple of questions in there - even though looking almost anything up in the Owners Handbook is tedious. One of the worst Handbooks I've ever come across.

As far as Warranty and Insurance are concerned, unless the change to winter tyres is mandatory and the conditions in which the change should be made are clearly laid out, then I would look upon this as a optional change. Fitting winter tyres can reduce the performance of the car so fitting them when it isn't winter might reduce the cars performance unnecessarily.

Thanks. I'll have a look online. Most insurance companies these days are ok with winter tyres assuming you have followed the manufacturers guidelines and not just made it up as you've gone along. That's why I'm surprised there's no info in or in the car. The Germans use them in their domestic market religiously, so their cars tend to be well catered for. I've used them for the last few years and appreciate the benefit living high up in the Pennines. I appreciate they're not for everyone. If I find anything out I will report back!

Interactive Owner's Manual [w204]

Found this that might be of some help.... But you have to scroll down to the section(s) you want

Just over 3 weeks in and approaching 1200 miles. Economy from start at 43mpg with a bit of 'fun' mixed in. Scared quite a few folk at supermarkets that didn't hear me coming!!

Only slight issues I have are with the media and Comand.

1. Music loaded onto SD card and Spotify via Bluetooth to android phone. It quite often gets confused on track listings and doesn't have a clue what tune I am playing.
2. Comand guidance - what the...? Why does it say to me bear left when I am going right at the roundabout? I'm used to half left coming from an E class but left for a right turn?
3. dab - keep losing the signal on five live. I expect it on regional stations but should I get that on national?

Thanks, but it's a dead link on my machine for some reason.
But... ours are W205s. Or more pedantically S205 for the estate! :D

I have found a Mercedes App where you can download manuals. After getting a bit distracted by the Unimog... I found the correct manual, but it was no more helpful than the paper one in the car. I think I will follow Max's advice and contact a dealer.

Mine loses Absolute Radio in certain places. I think it's a common "feature" of DAB in cars unfortunately.

Hi, long term listener first time caller but...

Quick question about Activr Park Assist. The car seems to recognise parallel spaces well but doesn't seem to be able to identify bays to reverse into.

Is there something I'm not selecting, or does the car just not have the ability?

Yes, on mine too, sorry; but I did check the link while I could still edit my post and it worked, so something must have changed later.

I know the link says W204 but it is where you get to when you search using first principles.

It can do bay parking but doesn't like wide open spaces! It can find bays adjacent to a vehicle or between two vehicles or bays with curbs.

It isn't as reliable at spotting them as parallel parking.

If you have an iPhone or iPad you can get the Mercedes manual app. It allows you to download the manual for any Mercedes and have it as a local searchable book within the app. Really useful.

2. Mine does this too, I presume it thinks you need to know to turn left onto the roundabout?!

3. Mine lost all DAB for one day when I first got it. Ever since been no drops (apart from a couple of 2sec black holes on my drive to work)
