Hi, long term listener first time caller but...

Quick question about Activr Park Assist. The car seems to recognise parallel spaces well but doesn't seem to be able to identify bays to reverse into.

Is there something I'm not selecting, or does the car just not have the ability?

Try using your indicator to select which side to scan. This worked for me and now works 9 times out of 10.

I actually used parking bay assist for the first time today as wanted to try it ahead of showing her indoors how easy it is! I deliberately searched out an individual space between two parked cars. I'd say it worked a treat other than The car needed to go forward and back once to get in the space whereas I would have lined up and done it in one. Quite impressive though.

My car is having a joke with me.
Started this morning showing 14 miles.
I was amaxed that after 6 miles it showed 9 miles left.
200 yards later it showed 6
So why can I never do my 12 mile journey to work with a balance of mileage.
It is as if the car knows to always show 0 when I get to work, even though I don't use the sat nav.
grrrrrrrrr

I think it depends on how you drive it on electric. f you stick it in E-mode and have a heavy right foot I think it adjusts the range, whereas if you accelerate gently in E-mode ive seen the range creep up.

Out of interest, what is the lowest anyone has got their battery down to? E-mode is not available after 10% but I've managed to squeeze it down to 9% in hybrid after that.

I got 11 miles this morning. It started on 17.

No AC or fan and it was country roads 50 limit and driven gently with some small inclines.

I've been down to 9% as well.

I'm not an engineer but from what I've heard, draining the battery to very low levels reduces its working life. So whilst it might be great to creep back onto the drive without using any petrol, it might be worse in the long run.

I've also heard that being fully charged for long periods might stress the battery.

I've only managed 10% in E mode

The efficiency of the car has rocked for me. Probably due to increases in ambient temp and the loosening up of the running gear etc.

My evening journey is 17 miles and I used to just be able to do it in E mode.

Last week I did it and still had 35% remaining !

Presumably your morning journey is back up that 17 mile incline? Otherwise all our carping on about never achieving 19 mile range might have to stop.

I've had mine to 8% once. I kept it in Emode until 10% and once it switched back to hybrid I had to use an extremely light right foot to get me home. Only had it once though, 9% is the lowest normally..

I did see the garage take it down to 4% whilst it was in having the charge port / wiring loom replaced earlier in the year. This was while I was keeping an eye on it with the app to see if it was being worked on. I don't think they drove it to take it this low though - more had it switched on whilst doing diagnostic tests.

I got it down to 6% yesterday while boarding the ferry in Holland. Just creeping along and standing brought it down from 9%. At 6% the engine kicked in even when stationary, presumably to power the aircon.

Trip to Germany

I've just come back from Germany, visiting my folks over there in Saxony.
Took the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam and then drove across Germany.
On the way back,we used the ferry from Hook of Holland to Harwich.
All in all a little over 1300 miles.
The car was great, both in the slower sections 'swimming' along with the traffic, as well as the quicker parts of the Autobahn.
We've got a little boy so the stopping every so often was combined with charging the car for which I got a charging card from 'new motion' - worked flawlessly in a number of places in the Netherlands and Germany. Although finding an available charging spot in the Netherlands was challenging at times...EVs and PHEVs are really everywhere there.

Charging was available on the ferry to Harwich but not on the one from Hull.
Although it meant boarding last (and disembarking pretty much an hour after docking) so you do have to ask yourself if it's worth it for 15 miles of range (we had to drive back to West Yorkshire)

Plenty of 100+ mph driving in Germany meant the average mpg took a little bit of a dive and it's where the small tank of the car was most noticeable. That aside, it's a great long-distance cruiser and you do wonder how you ever lived without Distronic.
Things I learned to love:
- Distronic
- Effortless acceleration and high-speed cruising
- ILS
- Seats and suspension
- Mercedes Me

And on the opposite:
- questionable route guidance and diversion by the Command system
- not being able to permanently disable navigation announcements
- Brake behaviour in Sport Plus mode..especially when coming to a stop

You mean coming to a S_T_O_P !
:D

I find the brakes a bit hard to modulate. Sometimes I stand it on it's nose, and others I worry I'm not going to stop depending on what mode I'm in. The "engine braking" in electric mode is huge as well, and presumably doesn't light the brake lights?

Your car looks the same as mine. I'm Bradford/Halifax based so I'll keep an eye out for you.

That is epic. Well done! Are you able to recharge during the day?

Home and office charging (both just 3 pin)....my colleague is able to charge at the office but not at home with his saloon and is achieving around 55mpg, his commute is also 2-3 miles more each way.

I'm only charging at home at the minute. 55.3mpg and engine off for about half the time.
I could do with sorting something out at work. That would make a big difference to me.

I'm thinking that the brake lights probably come on when you have engine braking, thinking it's the same as touching the brake pedal very lightly which would engage the brake lights, if so it will look like we are on and off the brakes all the time particularly when in motorway traffic. Doe's anyone know for sure what happens?

It arrived...

Took delivery of my new saloon in brilliant blue today. Managed 84mpg on the 26 mile drive home (thanks to a full charge and crawling along the M4). Love the car and could go on about all the great things... but...

One disappointing thing... the maps are really out of date (Garmin). It says 2015/16 version 5.1 Europe is the latest but it doesn't have my work address/road (road has been there 15+ years) and doesn't have my home address (house has been there 10+ years). It also claims there is a burger king at the end of my road (I would be happy if there was, but there isn't).

I assume if I had been able to have COMMAND then the maps would be (a bit) better?

Seriously, I haven't seen maps this bad since the early days of Satnav.

Perhaps I am spoilt... I haven't had built in sat-nav before and have used Waze or TomTom.

Bad Luck! Glad you like the car. Some things take while to get used to. Yes the COMAND map database is pretty good, but the guidance algorithm has its moments - particularly with pronunciation of foreign places. It seems to me that you could have a case to threaten the dealer with a report to the Trading Standards Office or even the Small Claims Court. It depends on how strong you feel; it's a tough road to embark on.
