C36 On E-Bay - My old car has lost 60,000 Miles

Worst comes to the worst , there's a fair chance whoever he sells it to will show up on here and we can set him straight ;)

if the new buyer has handed over the £4000 then its highly likely he would rather stick with the current milage so when he sells it on he will sell it with the dodgy milage. i wouldnt give him the MOT's, he will probably "hide" them. - i would go direct to dvla or trading standards.

This is exciting - like a "whodunnit" I am at work and keep checking back to find out latest developments!

:D

Edited to add my own congrats for someone trying to do the right thing instead of just ignoring it as "not my problem"

with respect that sounds like "it's Monday morning get off the phone we are busy"

Just to clarify, if you do not own something when the offence is commited you cannot report it as a crime?

Get that one in writing because it could be used to set some pretty impressive precedents :) Applying his logic means that every single speeding or parking ticket issued is illegal - the person issuing the ticket doesn't own the car so therefore cannot report a crime, nobody unless they are directly involved can report any crime so if you see a burglar breaking into your neighbours house it's not a crime if you report it. etc etc etc

Try phoning them again and asking if this bit of laziness applies to all crimes or just those they can't be bothered with

Must really make you feel "why do I bother?!" Much credit to you for doing the right thing. Believe in Karma - for good done, good is returned somewhere along the line

I agree its probably a 'Can't be bothered with this petty crime this morning' answer, but its still the one I got from them. I've done all I can to ensure justice prevails, it just seems nobody is bothered. I'm bored with the whole thing now so won't be taking it any further. I've spent the last 2 hours trying to report this crime and found nobody who will listen. What a great society we live in, my only advice to all is DO NOT buy a car unless all documentation is available, even when a crime is commited its impossible to report it and get anyone to act. If there are any policemen/women on here perhaps they could comment...

Maybe Mr Plodd himself would like to comment on this one.

I believe you may report any crime at any police station.

I think you've done more than what most people would have done. Good on you, I think there's a limit to how much you can do at this stage.

Just sent a mail to the sun to see if they are interested in the story....
Contact the other major daily papers too - just in case others are more interested.

Of course, the Daily Sport would be an interesting photo shoot!!?? :D

Based on my recent experiences of policing, UK PLC 2006/7, I'm not the slightest bit surprised at Plods' attitude. They'd rather be out trying to fleece motorists.

As usual I think it so wrong to generalise.

I have congratulated Rees on his diligence and hope we would all behave in a similar fashion, but did he speak to a police officer, or did he simply speak to the messenger? I endorse totally Andy_k's comments and even if it was a civilian, the advice was wrong. If it was an actual police officer then they need a boot up the kyber pass;)

The words 'Crime Stoppers' was used and I wonder if this was the right place to complain? This might not perhaps be what this number was designed for?

Should the complaint have gone to the local police?

Should the complaint have been made in writing to the Chief Constable? (it will go into the internal post system)

Should the complaint have been made in writing to the local Trading Standards Office?

I have no idea as to the right answer, but I stick by my commendation of our forum member :bannana: :bannana: :bannana:

Well done and you have done more than most ex owners would have done.

Regards,
John

That's the problem with our so called Judicial system - it designed with loop holes to protect the criminals.

Pah! They'd give me a crime number so I could claim from my insurance, not show the slightest inclination to do any sort of investigation, then go back to manning roadblocks where they can patronise motorists in the vain hope of getting some money out of them.

Its wrong on so many levels.

John, I'm not criticising Rees_A's actions or intentions chief - indeed, quite the contrary. I was merely sympathising with his discovery that the police just couldn't care less about the fate of his previous car. I'd imagine however that if he'd been caught on camera at 34mph in a 30 zone in it the attitiude would be quite different.

My recent brush with the law (Warwickshire's finest; Rugby specifically) has shown them to be a bunch of unsympathetic, lazy, ignorant idiots.

Still, just as long as I feel safe in my own home eh

More info on my incident on request.

Best,
Greg
