C63 507 Caught Fire!!!

Ill get all the facts and seek right advice before making any decisions.

Manchester mercedes have assured me they will look after me and I have faith in them, they have been spot on since I got the car and all my family get our cars from there.

I wouldn't worry too much about a fire, it's very unlikely to go up so fast you can't get out.

I know a few people that have had car fires, none of which have ended up dangerous.

last thing I want is too be driving a car with doubt in my mind. Will see what MB report back.

I agree - I'd want a replacement, not a repaired fire damaged car, after spending c£70K.

Let's see what they say :)

You'll have doubt in your mind surely now in any MB ? Repaired or not , you'll always be thinking 'is it just about to go on fire again ?'

Bit of a vicious circle.

Howard it will depend on what comes out of investigation, it might turn out this is a manufacturers defect and all 507`s get called in which might make me skeptical or it could be down to workmanship error from MB Birmingham. Lets get the facts first.

My mates got a car hire business.....they`ve got four C63`s including a black series and two 507`s and they`ve booked them all in next week to have them checked!!

I didnt have any problems with my C350 going up in flames and that was driven hard........keeping an open mind for now and will wait for the dust to settle!!!

Theres also the missus and little nipper as well I need to think about.....so would not want the risk of them sitting in a car thats been previously fire damaged and repaired.

Each to their own......you might be prepared to sit in a car thats been fire damaged and repaired.....but not me.

Fingers crossed they give you a new one then :thumb:

Ill be fighting tooth and nail for a new one!!

Quote of the day was from the recovery man......`you should have let it burn so it definately would have been written off`..........didnt know whether to laugh or cry lol!!

I am not sure that MB are legally obliged to do anything more than repair your car, however given the circumstances I expect they will want to settle this quickly and amicably.

Said that, asking for a 15 months old car to be replaced with new one might be seen as unreasonable...

EDIT : should read '6 months', not 15...

I think they will offer you a similar car of similar age and condition but obviously one that was not involved in a fire - though it will not be easy to find a second hand 507 to match the criteria, and in any event you might not want this arrangement.

Or they might propose to buy the car back from you at market value (undamaged) and offer a discount on a new C63.

I read it was 6 months old :dk:.

Yeah it would probably be asking for too much to replace a 6 month old car with a new one but I am sure they will look after us and sort something out.

I am sure MB manchester do not want to lose our custom.....we`ve ordered the A45 which we`re picking up in May.

They ordered a batch of 507s late last year that will be arriving to thier dealerships over the next couple of months, but I am sure they said they have stopped taking orders for them now.

Sadly, the recovery guy is right! If you're refused a new replacement I'd be make an appointment with a solicitor. It can be amazing what a £100 letter can accomplish.

You bought it new, followed the Mercedes service plans, still under 1 year old... So you should get a new replacement. Hope they do look after you.

We are, you did.

A good challenge and an excellent response by you. Sit back and enjoy the outcome of your good advice and that of others. I'm sure non was intended.

There was a issue and when I took car to Birmingham MB they said there was a problem with steering boot and they replaced it. We are just speculating on how the fire started at the moment though you can see from the pictures the steering boot has been damaged and the fire started in that area.
Not sure about taking legal advice just yet, will wait until I know all the effects.

What I was getting at was it would be quite unusual to replace a steering boot on a car as young as this. Unless perhaps it was melted or something. Only thinking out loud...
