C63 507 Model Register

Has anyone had to have the black 507 alloy wheels refurbished?

I’ve just detailed all 4 of mine which are thankful have been well looked after and are in mint condition but they look like they could be problematic to repair/refurbish. The silver outline appears to have been milled into rim , rather than diamond cut and looks pretty delicate.

When the tyres are ready for changing I’m definitely going for ones which protrude as much as possible over the edge of the rim , most likely Goodyear Assymetric 3.
I've had mine refurbished. It certainly isn't easy! As you say, the silver groove has been milled so most refurbishers won't touch them. Pristine at Milton Keynes did mine and they had to polish out the groove by hand.
You see quite a few where the wheels are refurbished totally black as that's obviously much easier. I've also seen one or two where the outer lip has been diamond cut but you're removing quite a lot of metal then. Maybe a better option would be to spray the groove silver rather than trying to cut it back to metal.

Just looking at the photo of your wheel and the valves look a bit different. Do you have standard valves rather than the Tyre Pressure Monitor Sensors.

As my hunt continues, I have found a car with the spec I am looking for but it is much higher mileage than I really want
(70,000).

Everything else on the car checks out (unlike many I have been looking at).

What are thoughts on high mileage, am I likely to see much higher service costs.

A quick google shows extended warranty costs about double compared to a lower mileage car.
Andrew, is it this one?

If so, it has a good spec, including factory LSD and only 2 owners. An inspection and assessment of condition would be the true test though. Certainly the steering wheel looks a bit grubby. It has also been de-badged and de-chromed.

That’s a question I can’t answer, the valves are the rubber type so it may not have tyre pressure sensors. Until I change the tyres I’m not sure if I can answer that. Still not had the car long enough to check out all the features.

If they are rubber then definitely not Mercedes TPMS. I believe they don't last for ever but thought it was something like 6 to 10 years expectancy.

Yes that’s the one. It has HK and LSD which were the things I would like.

I have been doing some background checks on cars to select those to look at. This one looked like a genuine car.
Only downside is the last service has been carried out by selling dealer, the rest were main dealer. I would prefer full dealer and was thinking if I did buy it I could put it straight in to Mercedes for the service.

Does anybody know if that would ‘continue’ the main dealer full history or is 3 months too long a gap.

Amazed at the MOT results on some cars. The one thing I never skimp on is tyres, yet one car failed with tyres down to the cord.

i was thinking that, my last TVR didn’t get used a lot and went through 2 batteries in a year before I had a battery conditioner fitted.

Eventually sold it when it only did 500 miles between MOT’s. I didn’t have any problems because I did make sure I ran it once a month (other than the batteries).

One of my friends had a 4.5 Cerb he used as a daily and it had no problems.

Whilst cleaning them I thought they would be difficult to refurbish correctly back to oem finish. Glad you found someone who could do the work correctly.

It might be worth having a bit of a sticky post on companies who can refurbish the 507 , or any AMG Alloy, correctly to a high standard. Just a thought.

As long as they've followed the correct service schedule I wouldn't bother getting it done again until it's next service is due.

I'm with you...seems a shame to lose the full MB Dealer Service History and it might come back to haunt you when you move it on.

I had mine done but the company were unable to redo the same black so eventually went for anthracite but they are only c63 not 507 wheels

I had all 4 19 inch Black 507 Alloys replaced under Warranty from MB Edinburgh I noticed the lip or Alloy edge was peeling of the Lacquer I thought they would just refurb them but no the ordered a new set from a Germany

Hi Andrew, it's great to see another iQ owner on the forum! I used Mercedes Genuine parts and oil to service the 507 and works were carried out by a former master tech and registered on the Merc Digital Service Book, as you can probably make out from the vid and pics the MP4S tyres are nearly new, nothing's been skimped on, all parts that have been replaced have been genuine MB from new, happy to chat more. Alex

Hi Alex,

I will call you tomorrow for a chat.

I was hoping to get down this week, but having some adverse reaction to a course of medication i’m on at the moment.

Aren’t the IQ’s great, really clever packaging

Hi, I have just signed up as I am looking for a C63 507 and came across the forum whilst researching.

Hoping to benefit from the obvious experience and knowledge here.

I have only just started to look, there are a couple of dealers relatively local with cars I may be interested in, although not my preferred colour/spec.

Church’s and Kent Motor Cars both have Red Coupes, is anything known about these cars ? I did see some comments earlier re problems with the paint on the red cars, is that a problem on all cars or just some ?

Due to health issues I’m not currently able to travel huge distances to look at cars hence the interest in the two mentioned above.

Did you view the cars? I’d be interested to hear your feedback on the condition of the red paint - I personally think red is the best colour to have one but much like you I probably wouldn’t because of the issues it comes with! Think white or magno are my only options for my next one!

Not yet. I am on a course of medication and it has had side effects this week. Hope to sort something out next week.

However it would appear that the problem with the Red paint can hit at any point, I plan to have a look for comparison purposes, but unless very cheap to allow for any future issues/battles with MB and resale I wouldn't buy a red 507.
