Anyone know this car? Seems to have had the rear bumper diffuser painted gloss black and the stripes removed? WHY?! :( Wheels also refurbished incorrectly...

I don’t know the car , but I can understand why the stripes may have gone , a lot of folk don’t like them. As for the gloss diffuser that’s one mod I’d make to mine as it seems odd as the only Matt surface on the car is the diffuser, but each to their own.

As for the wheels I’ve still not come across anyone who can machine refinish the black alloys as the silver rim and AMG logo is created during manufacturing using a 5 axis milling machine. Specialist engineering companies have that equipment but Alloy wheel refurbishers at best can only diamond cut. If someone knows differently please post info. I’ve seen quite a few with the wheel finished all black or a diamond cut edge which is not oem.

I think @PhilLinda might know someone.

Im hopeful that its not down to previous bodywork but I wont know unless I view the car - going to try and peace as much information as I can together. The rear diffuser also looks out of alignment so not sure if its just not clipped in correctly or previous damage.

If it has had the bumper repainted that would be one reason for the stripes missing , as I believe you have to buy a full set as the rear section can’t be bought separately. Whilst the bumper was being painted doing the diffuser gloss black would be the way to go, or hide some filler as getting the factory Matt finish may have been more costly. Saying that I believe a genuine MB diffuser is less than £100.

Keep us posted on what your detective work reveals:)

Pristine in Milton Keynes have done these wheels in the past. They are not easy to do and the groove has to be done by hand. I wonder if a better option would be to paint the groove.

That’s maybe why the car with the red rim was done that way? I can see why most people go all black or diamond cut the outer black edge away, much easier. Apparently we lucky 507 black alloy owners have one of the most difficult wheels to get an oem finish on, unless someone knows ones that are harder?

Im already surprised at how long its taking the dealer to reply. Its just as if the salesmen don't care.

Sadly Dan, I find that's the norm. I've experienced it with MB dealers and my friends complain about it from McLaren & Ferrari dealers too! The good traders are few & far between, it seems :(

I agree with this statement. I put a deposit on my 507 at Mercedes before they posted pictures of the car. I then had to wait 6/7 weeks to collect the car. I was chasing them up and not them chasing me up. There was a lot of calling and leaving messages. They also had lost the log book.

Phil.

I’m not a wheel refurbishment expert but painting the groove would appear to involve masking up the inner and outer edge , which I would imagine is not an easy task to get a clean finish. Several places I have spoken to have said they cannot do the OEM finish on a black 507 alloy including Prestige in Birmingham.

You could potentially do it with a liquid pen I guess! I have a great chrome effect one I bought for some parts on my old 240Z.

Can’t help thinking if all the silver part of the rim had been red, with the AMG logo in black this would have looked better. I’d still say oem is the best look, but the red outline and red calipers is growing on me.

All the way to Mercedes Benz world to see the car that I was promised had the decals removed from purchase... clearly not.

Initial thoughts, budget tyres all different on each axle.

Front bumper alignment poor. And not enough stone chips on the arches to warrant the amount on the front bonnet edge... paint gauge out and shows filler in the rear arch and blended all the way down one side.

Didn’t bother looking anymore at it.

Came down to 34k without the decals - honestly I’d be hard pushed to spend 20k of my hard earned on it.

Sorry you’ve had another wasted trip. There are good ones out there , and there are cheap ones , unfortunately there aren’t many/any good cheap ones.

Hardly a cheap one priced at 35k with 42,000 miles. Cheap in my eyes would be 28k.

I just found a great car on Auto Trader:

I assume this is the silver car above? What is the spec?
