C63 v Boxster S

I used to do 1600 miles in a day on my sclass when going back home ,I'd like to see someone doing that in a porsche Boxster.

I once drove in convoy in my C63 from Norway to France covering 800 miles in a day with a bloke in a KTM XBow.

Lovely chap but utterly mental :D

It would be boring if we all liked exactly the same things. I wouldn't choose a CL or SL as for me Euro trips are not about the destination and sight seeing and needing to munch miles. It's all about the driving and the roads for me. Where you end up is just a decent bed and meal till you go off for a blast all day the next day. For that more frenetic type of driving the Boxster works for me. If it was more cruise and soak up the atmosphere and even taking passengers then I can see the appeal of a CL or SL. A C55 or C63 would be fun for a couple of hours but when you are doing 5+ hours of fast driving 5 or 6 days in a row they are just too much hard work. The Boxster just suits those type of roads and trips better.

What a load of ollocks!

Having driven a few Porsche they just don't do it for me. At the time I always got back in the M3 and it felt better.

Not everyone likes the same car and I certainly wouldn't say the Boxster was better than an M3! I wouldn't compare the Boxster to any Mercedes other than the SLK, comparisons to other Mercedes makes no sense, it's not a GT car or a coupe!

That's a high average indeed...about 65mph given say 4 stops for fuel.

And no other traffic...and that's assuming driving for a full 24 hours. So...probably not as you say.

And this in the van!;-)

I was stuck behind this guy for a short while going over the Stelvio Pass. I didn't need a macho C63 to get past him either, my C350's 306 horses did the job easily!

Talking of horses, it's very much horses for courses as has been said with the comparisons being made here. The two cars are completely different, as are all the other cars that have intruded into the discussion. More to the point, all the drivers are different too. What one person likes will be awful to someone else. We all have different tastes, which is great or life would be so boring. So how about celebrating all those differences instead of throwing insults around?

On the Bormio side I assume ? Much for fun than on the hairpin laden Austrian side :)

Have to admit, Stelvio whilst an iconic name and in everybody's bucket list, is a crap drivers road compared to all the other passes.

You don't need an AMG to pass somebody if they're not on it :D

I'm sure it's no fun at all when it's busy, which is most of the time it's open. We were lucky and arrived there just a hour after it opened following a long winter. It was very quiet so many more opportunities to have fun. The little bit of ice in places added to the adrenalin rush on some of the hairpins where the back end came round nicely, looking as though I meant it!

You're absolutely right about passing those who aren't on it. I'm certain the Porsche could have left me for dead on those roads if he'd been trying.

I find in Europe people will wave you past too, and not just the locals but UK drivers abroad too! Try seeing any of that in the UK.

I disagree in part.

The ascent to the ski resort from the Italian side starting in Bormio is fantastic. The iconic picture postcard hairpin side down to Austria is I agree a let down.
