I didn't know that the Distance Regulations covered car purchases as well as regular goods, but now I do. You can return the car within 7 days for a full refund!

- the news is about a year old
but thought it might be useful to some who order on the internet / phone
(I did a search on 'Distance Selling' and couldn't find any posts to avoid duplicate posting)

Note that these regulations don't apply to "sales concluded at an auction", so probably aren't much help with Ebay.

eBay is *not* an auction (you have to have a person with a gavel and a sign about the 18 hundred and something auction act for it to be an auction).

The problem with eBay is distinguishing who is private and who is trade, because, of course, DSR's don't apply to private sales. You also need to be sure that if you return the car, you are actually going to get your money back. That might not be a certainty with an eBay seller.
