CL65 AMG now sold.... turned to the 'other' side....

Well, just got back after a 500 mile round trip to collect it and drop of the CL65. Sorry for any spelling/grammar errors, very tired and wont re-read this before posting!

Was pretty sad to leave the CL, what with it having all the toys and bits that the Aston does not have, plus that V12 engine...

Well, what can I say, that little tear in the corner of my eye soon went when I got on the road in the Aston.

In the 250 miles I've drove today the car is something else. You DO have to drive/passenger in it to believe it!

THE NOISE!!!!!!!!!

I've been/owned the Kompressor 55 AMG cars and they are loud with a great V8 sound, the SLK55 AMG is great, but this Aston is just incredible. The noise past 4000 upto 8000rpm is just spine tinglingly great!!!

The car is very solid and stiff, much different to the CL and I actually like it. The interior is just as good as the CL, to my surprise this car as black leather interior and silver stitching everywhere, very nice touch, as are the seats, much more supportive than the AMG seats.

So far VERY pleased... will tell more over the next few days.

Do I miss the power of the CL?? Do I hell, the NOISE and 'driving style' of the Aston make up for it in plenty.

Only bad thing... it uses more fuel than the 6.0 engine in my old CL, Aston 4.3 averaged 16mpg on the way home verses 22mpg of the CL65

Matt, in the politest possibly way, and with all due respect, I hate you.

:-)

Keep up the good work.

Congrats Maff. Glad you have got something sensible!
Defected to something galvanised and a little bit quicker...with a few tweaks here and there.
1999 C230K Sport Sold
1998 C200 Sport Sold

Just for the record mercs are galvanised. Both Mercedes and BMW began galvanising all steel panels etc from 2004 onwards.

With the rumours that Ford are to sell Jaguar, Aston Martin and Land Rover because of financial problems stateside, you may shortly find you own a Hyundai! (currently the City's tip as the most likely buyer). What fun.:D

I can see a trend coming here :)

Me too :p Congrats on the new car tho dude :)

Sounds like a sweet car Matt.:bannana: I have to agree that the noise these cars produce is incredible.

Matt,

Congratulations on the new car :D

Looking forward to seeing it at the next GTG!

My SL is now nearly 4 years old and running perfectly...so there are at least some of us remaining loyal :p

Cheers

Congrats, why the baby Aston ?
I must admit when I went in the CL65 I could not see it as a £165K car, glad to know you did not pay that for it.
Didn't fancy the CLK-DTM then ?. I must admit the DTM does inspire me and at the moment they seem to be holding their money. What do you guys reckon long term. Money down the drain ?

This speaks volumes to me. Mercedes can produce a V12 6litre twin turbo car which produces circa 720BHP AND can still return 22mpg. Aston Martin/FOrd/hyundai produce a V8 4.3litre car with significantly less power and weight which can only muster 16mpg!

Still, even I who dislikes fords and AM's have to admit it looks good and sounds good. Glad you are happy with it so far. Bet it doesnt do 209mph though;)

The 6litre is driving via an automatic transmission as well whereas I'm fairly certain the Aston is a manual. Even more impressive.

Would be great to have one in my dream garage, but I reckon they're as niche as niche can get, so finding a buyer might be a challenge should you change your mind - the sort of motor to keep for a long time IMHO rather than sell after a few months.

The McMerc SLRs appear to have dropped a fair chunk and will probably always have a relatively bigger (albeit still tiny) market, as they probably have a great bling factor and broader appeal. I guess the two will be changing hands for similar money soon.

I keep waiting to hear you have gone for the Prodrive treatment Maff......been reading EVO recently? You need to!!

I have been thinking about it, but new house on the way so spending the money on other things :D

I do however have a tour of the Prodrive factory arranged next month!!

Anyone care to enlighten us to what this prodrive option for your car is?

Is it like those citroen Saxo's with purple lights underneath them?;)

I'd be interested to hear how the Aston is behaving lately!
