'Comedic' renewal pricing - Churchill

Churchill have declined to offer me a quote for upcoming renewal on my E53. Several other household name companies have taken the same stance and I'm struggling to find cover with a company that I recognise! The insurance market in Autumn/Winter 2023 is one crazy illogical melting pot of excessive quotes or simple buggir offs we don't want you any more!

Hi , sorry about delay in replying.

Automobile manufacturing in the United States is a major employer and keeps the American economy sort of solvent.

The vast majority of new automobiles are purchased of difference types of fiance and when the finance deals dry up so do automobile sales.

Again in the UK the vast majority of car sales are financed of we mirror our American cousins.

If we cannot to buy new cars insurance is a major issue ( I worked in Cheltenham many years ago and many drivers had no driving licences , no car insurance and drug driving was a major issue ).

If my car insurance continues to increase at it current rate I will take my car of the road and put it in storage.

Western economies are skint and we the voter will suffer.

Yes, the Covid-19 subsidies were absurd and we’re all paying that price. We borrowed ridiculous sums of money and we’ve put millions on benefits with no real incentive to start work or increase the amount of work that they do.

But “skint?” In a country where 33 million cars are on the road and 97% are properly insured? “Skint?” Where holidays are back to pre-Covid levels, regardless of cost? “Skint?” Where employment levels are still pretty much at the highest levels for the last fifty years? (Since records began)

Hi , I believe the UK is skint , I really do hope that I am incorrect in my summary.

I think we are overdrawn by £2,000,000,000,000 !

Nowhere new on the personal debt front.

£2.6 trillion of National Debt and £1.8 trillion of UK personal debt, making a total of £4.4 trillion.

Apologies: "nowhere NEAR"

Yes, the UK's debt:GDP ratio is lower than Japan, the States, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Belgium, but....

Did I highlight the £200 billion of "Education, Education, Education" Student debt ?

And still we've got one 11 year old in four that's obese, Airports back to pre-Covid19 traffic levels, and the shops on target for a bumper Christmas.

No such thing as "poor" people...
Glastonbury 2024 sold out in under an hour (c 210,000 tickets @ £360 each)
Aye, but think of it as more like £600 a pop once you include travel, food, drink etc. Minimum.

Really....clearly you have not been for a while....Glasto is just full of middle age, middle class people who think tattoos still look cool!

I’ve not got any tattoos. But I genuinely appreciate the artistry and the stories they represent.

I 'm always impressed by musical talent, and particularly enjoy live music, even though I wouldn't think of going to Glastonbury.....camping in a muddy field sharing the facilities with 30,000 other people? No thanks.
And I do have a tattoo, although I didn't get it to look cool.

Same here Mikey. We even appreciate musical acts that don’t float our boat.

It’s all goes back to the judgemental issue again. If folk don’t comply to some people’s ideals then it’s OBVIOUSLY wrong. 🙄

Currently with Churchill......

Premium paid last December - £296.

Renewal just arrived today - £440

Just about to investigate emails received from two comparison sites showing £350-360, though not naming the insurer.......

If our experience with Mrs Spiky's insurance is anything to go by, there's still options with big name insurers available that will beat your renewal quote ( albeit she's not running anything more exotic than a 1.4 VW group estate. )
Call me cynical, but I'm not convinced that the insurance industry is abiding by the rule that existing customers get the same deal as new ones.

I suspect that the actual rule is that they can't (in principle) offer a higher renewal price than they would offer an equivalent new customer.

It doesn't mean that if you talk to them about the renewal they can't then offer to lower it further to compete - and it doesn't mean that they might not offer a new customer similar response if they call.

Partner has just phoned his insurer (Direct Line) and haggled a £75 discount from the renewal price, which was £135 more than last year's.

Mine doesn't renew until February. If it goes up as much as everyone else's, it might be time to let the saloon go.

Just refreshed my C43 insurance quote with Confused and the best I got (£412) which is less than I paid 6 months ago ( £455).

Also have a 97 M3 evo and renewal quote a month ago was £600 (up from £130) but when I shopped around I managed to renew for £125.

Seems like insurers are all over the place at the moment.

Hi , read an article today that suggested that the insurance fiasco is just the beginning to help EU governments remove old cars from the road by insurance companies not offering any insurance policy for ICE propelled cars !!

The time span quoted is 5 / 10 years and Germany is the driving force.

Other contributions from YouTube suggest that the UK are trying to stop mass movement of the population using private cars and produce a Monopoly for state transport systems.

Time will tell !
