De-badging method

Other day saw a really mean looking C class AMG (only badge it had on) parked at work; when seeing the driver climb in I asked him if he had modded the C63 engine and what his rear tyre life was like. When he started it up I don't who was more embarrassed - sounded like a standard C180:)

Stealth beast

For whose benefit? I understand it if you have a 180 or 200d and want to hide the fact as Ive always thought you may as well go for a Mondeo with a proper engine but for stealth, why and to what purpose?

Thanks for this excellent thread on badge removal, mine are slightly pitted and I wish to replace.

Why debadge? unless you are desparate to hide what you have.

for me and some (cant speak for all) its the actual design of the badges - on my amg sports plus - the whole sports side badge lettering on the side panelling and all the letters of the alphabet on the back i just didnt like (and at the time none were out to see what look like just judged on computer graphics) - wasnt keen on those at all and all the images from the preview ads had the de badged version which look great hence the decison - just looked a bit smarter in my opinion with the detailing i chose :dk:

Cars look better de badged - fact

sometimes MB just over do it with boot badges. Each to their own, but the likes of "GL420 CDI.......4Matic, S350 CDI......Bluetech, " is a little over kill for my liking. I could live with one on the left, but both sides? Nah...too much story going on! This not to mentioned the wing badges like Kompressor and Blue efficiency.:wallbash:

I've seen one recently on an ML CDI 4-matic and it barely had enough room for all of it - let alone the .com it was missing.

U can have an opinion

Hey, everyone can have one.

Doesn't make it a fact though...

And indicate it's a base model, but the owner wants to inject an element of mystery.

how does a de badge mean its a base model????:dk:

The single exhaust, skinny wheels (or fat aftermarket ones) and too often the unfaded outline of the original badges led a clue.

The replacement and unevenly stuck on ebay AMG badge simply adds value for observers.:)

my c250 sports plus is de badged and has none of those and there plenty of c350 sports plus's without there badges - so this comment still remains dubious as these arent 'base' models although debagded (even the ones in the promo ads were and again werent base models) - so been debadged gives no reference to them been base models simply a consumer choice - the other bits you mention are irrelevant as the thread reference is to been debaged - not re badged with an amg sticker or all the other various bits you mention - thats a whole separate issue? if thats what your referring to?:dk:

I'm not sure I agree, I am considering debadging mine in the hope I can drive without receiving invitation after invitation. This weekend alone a 911, RS500 and Cayman R tried in vain to entice me, 2 of which had passengers camera phone at the ready to record should I rise to the bait.

I indicatively think 'no badging = base model'. Whether thats true or not thats what I think. Have to say though that as mentioned it is usually cars with small single exhausts and skinny tyres that are debadged.

On second thoughts I just realised that I actually agree otherwise why would I debadge mine if not to disguise it as a base model!

respect that's what you think but this is based on your experience not any tangible statistic surmising this is fact especially when there are several members on here including myself that have either had the cars debagded before production or aftermarket and aren't driving base models. I think there are several reasons to have it done -mine been cosmetic - and when there are so many varying reasons it seems hard to cast such a generalization on the subject
