De-badging method

[I’ve just placed an order for a new Audi A8L (W12) a couple of weeks ago now, at a cost of £127.5k, £95k is the basic price of the car and £32.5k worth of Audi Exclusive and other factory fitted options. I’ve specifically chose to have the badges omitted, even the small W12’s from the grille and front wings, after all, it is my choice, and when I am paying out that kind of money for a motor car, then I am pretty dam sure that I will decide what goes on that vehicle.

Never mind debadging, have you seen how much your £127.5k car will be worth in a few years time:

Hi all

Had the boot of my E350 de-badged prior to delivery by Merc but the blue-efficiency badges on the front wings I hate with a passion now.

Anyone know how they are fixed on and if removal will leave any hole on show.

If you try dental floss it will snag on any fixings, or take the badge clean off.

I know the 6.3 badges on AMGs are just stuck on so I suspect yours are too.

agreed and then you can used Autoglym tar remover to get off any stubborn adhesive and then finish with a polish of your choice. I'd take your time if I was you... I did this on my Audi S3 to remove the S3 badge and the lacquer came with the badge!!! Since then I've kind of started to appreciate the re-sale value of having the badges remain.

I had these removed by the dealer when I took delivery of my E350. I hate them as well, they look really cheap. They are just glued on and will not leave any holes. There are no marks on my paintwork at all.

Just removed badges on boot lid of my CLS, used hair dryer for heat and dental floss, cleaned up stick residue with some alchohol and a bit of judicious finger nail. There were no real marks left, so just polished and waxed. Really easy job, and the rear end looks so much better without them.

i used a matchstick to progressively remove the badge off my car a few years ago
it took quite a while but didnt leave a mark - probably would have been better with a hairdryer
it was new and being indecisive i didnt opt for the debadge option
it was a black 330i i was trying to be discreet
not sure if it worked

BMW debadged probably looks like "hes trying to make it look like a 330i" in hindsight

Re Dash1 - £130K on an Audi - blimey, JLR Principal Engineers are doing well these days .

I recently bought a New C Class Coupe 180 AMG sport (styling ) and the car looks tremendous , except the C180 tags on the bag sort of spoiled the look of a very sporty ( looking ) car . When i took it into the the dealers for its 30 day check up I asked them to de-badge it , and they did , FOC , toying with buying this now ,along with some AMG Badges from E Bay .

If you've got good nails the lettering will twist off grabbing them with 2 fingers from each hand and gripping with your thumbs, then doesn't tend to leave any glue behind. If there is you can rub it with your finger and it just rolls off. Normally takes me about a minute to fully de-badge the lettering. Bigger badges like amg badges and Blue efficiency better off with the fishing line method or a plastic filler spreader. Merc badge on back is a bit more risky without taking the boot trim out and pushing from behind. Sliding a number of filler spreaders behind it gradually raising it out tends to get it off without damage but it is quite fragile.

Well, what an interesting thread

At least I did pick up a few tips about badge removal should I feel so inclined.

There was an article when the w126 was current which stated that most of the debadged (from factory) 126s were the smaller engined ones in the UK, but 560s in Germany. True or not, who knows.
