Digital Camera Advice Please?

I got mine from Pixmania ... Amazon always seem to advertise things they don't actually have in stock! But the P200 has been out for a while now, so you might be lucky. I bought two 256 Mb Memory Stick Pros, at the time that was much cheaper than a single 512 ... but again, things change so check current prices.

BTW I can strongly recommend Sony's own USB2 memory stick pro reader. I had a cheap Sandisk one before (also USB2), and the Sony one is orders of magnitude faster.

I was at my dad's this weekend, he copied a load of pictures from his Sony laptop (built in Memory Stick slot) onto the card I popped out of my P200. This took 9 minutes to do the transfer. When I got home it only took 50 seconds to move them onto my PC using my external Sony reader!

The reader on his Vaio laptop is built in, so no idea whether that would use USB or not? USB 2 is certainly loads quicker, I converted from 1.1 on my previous PC.

BTW for Compact Flash I use a FireWire reader .. they are supposed to have the edge on USB 2.

Memory Card Capacities

Sort of related to all digital cameras so didn't start a new thread.....
Can someone please explain why in the table below, the ratio of pictures to card size is NOT linear?
table2.gif

info from Comet website

Why isn't the number of pics for a 1M camera DOUBLE the number of a 2M camera?
Comparing 2M & 4M appears to be a 1:2 ratio, but 3M & 6M isn't.

Maybe because of the following ( for jpeg image format) :-

camera type image file size (average)

2megapixel 900k

3megapixel 1.2Mb

4megapixel 2Mb

5megapixel 2.5Mb

6megapixel 3.2Mb

8megapixel 3.5Mb

Image size will vary according to format and image complexity and will vary from camera to camera and memory card format http://www.steves-digicams.com/flash_memory.html
I'll let you check the math. ;)
