Do you brim the tank?

Never bother putting in any more than £20/30 worth at a time unless I have a longish trip planned. That usually lasts me a week. Living pretty close to a filling station I feel no need to fill the car to the brim every time.

Have always filled up to brim full, started with thirsty Jap bikes and small tanks in thh 70's. Now 40 years on old habits hard to shake off, now I have to go out of my way on my usual commute to pass a petrol station so even more motivated to do it as less frequently as possible.

I always brim the tank, I don't like hanging around on petrol forecourts so it minimizes the amount of visits IMO.

I don't buy on price, what's needed when needed is my approach. Fuel's expensive, my car's thirsty, suck it up.. fortunately I don't do many miles so I can afford to do this.

Cheers,

Gaz

Locally, I use the same garage for it's V Power, and the same pump, as it's one where no-one can part next to you :thumb:.

Yup, I too always brim the tank, although never more than the first click. Few extra drops won't change anything, other than making you breathe in more of the fumes.

Mmmm, your definition of rimming is a little different to mine:D
Could you please open up your particular definition for us

Speed school tough me that brimming the tank just wastes the extra fuel carrying the extra weight.

I didn't believe it at first and used to fill up £70 every time but now by only filling up with £60 I'm getting the same mileage as I would filling with £70 saving £10 a tank
What on Earth is 'speed school'?

When I go shopping for Pornography, BBQs, small bags of logs etc, I'll often buy a few litres of fuel.

Yeah I do the same, its amazing.

£5 of fuel lasts the same as a full tank.:wallbash:

Nearly always full, and more often than that I'll do that once I'm near half empty.

I say nearly always as my prefer car the GL could take over £100 to fill it up and many pumps stop before then :(

And my current car is RON98, I tend to go for Shell OptiMax or whatever it is called, so either I fill up early....Or I add a little from like BP with RON97 to get me going to a destination where there is a Shell station.

But in principle I fill it up if I can.

I fill my car up to the brim. I try and avoid supermarket fuel as I noticed years ago my 190E at the time ,early 90s did not start as quickly as it did with BP or Esso fuel.

When you hit the £99.99 limit at some pumps.

The trick is to place the nozzle back in the holder and relift and start again. If I recall correctly £128.9x is the worst single fill. Suspect I was on fumes but long story why.

Unsurprisingly, always brim - which to me means trickling in the last £2-3 after the nozzle first clicks. Seldom allow my vehicles to drop below 1/4 tank before brimming.

Varies for me - When I had a Range Rover Sport TDV8 with an 84L tank, I only used to half fill - 1 because it took all day to fill, 2 because I hated spending nearly £100 on a tank and 3 the additional weight added to the car of a full tank would reduce my mpg!

But the tiny savings will be lost in the frequent visits to a service station.

I fill to the brim every time.

It's not mainly for the weight saving, it's mainly financial. I prefer to plan my money as I need it. Unlike a lot on here I don't have a big bank balance. If anyone would like to donate one it is the charitable time of year. :thumb:

Got into the habit of using Shell Nitro+ in the last car (DPF issues, long story + it ticked over rough on Supermarket stuff) still using now and as the Shell stations aren't that thick on the ground I brim every week as a pass a Shell station on the way to work.

Like having comfort of lots of fuel in tank knowing that I can jump in a go wherever without fuel issues.

Interesting.

I wonder how you could prove this?
If the claim (and I think it is) is weight based, then it still doesn't make sense. Approx 10L is 10kg weight, about 1/160 of a C220, a midweight car. Not possible 1/160 weight reduction would save 1/7 in fuel usage.

My wife puts £20 every Friday n the Jaaag because it fits in with our weekly spend.

I put £50 in the Porsche about a month ago and have hardly used it.

The Dacia is in the car park at Skiathos airport with some diesel in it and hasn't been driven since August!!

+ add the weight of the fatty piloting the car :thumb:
