Do you brim the tank?

If a tank holds 70 litres and you fill half way instead of full, then that woud be roughly equivalent to not carrying 30Kg of weight in the boot.

I think most people would agree it's slightly silly to go 200-300 miles with 30kg of weight in the boot.

I'm not sure it saves much in real terms, but it just doesn't seem logical to fill up, unless of course you are doing so many miles a week that doubling your visits to the filling station would be a significant hassle.

Mines gets filled to the brim atleast twice a week.

Lots here live miles from petrol stations. I have one in eyeshot of work, 5 minutes from home and several in between.

I brim it when I'm at my chosen station which is the lowest price in the area, I only fill what I need if I'm in a pricey area and I'm not going far - e.g. motorway services (but that is rare) and brim it at my local.

Brimming it is the only way to work out the true MPG, onboard in my car is always optimistic by 5-8%, but knowing that variance allows me to calculate backwards I guess :D

When fuel gauge is on 1/4 tank , always top up to full.

Daily lol.

Not so much on my weekend toys tho,, only run the cossies, evo, range rover classic etc on v power and as they dont get much use, the fuel would loose it's potency before i used it all..

I fill her up mainly because I hate going to petrol stations.

I always seems to end up waiting for the person in front to do their shopping/brush their hair/see if the kids are ok/empty their car of rubbish...... everyone should get out, fill up, f**k off (preferably using pay at the pump! They're not hard to use!)

This one is easy. Fill to the brim when at a cheap station, fill bare minimum (£5) when I am at an expensive one.

Not that easy.... filling up a fiver at an expensive garage might cost you later when you need to go out of your way and refuel again sooner than expected.....

I hate filling up the car. So wait for it to go below 1/4 and then brim it.

I know it's not efficient and all that.

Obviously I would take into account my journey requirements and buy more, hut only what I need, taking into account the journey to a cheaper station as well :P

I always brim the tank but rarely does it go below a half.

I like knowing that at any given time I've got 500+ miles worth of fuel in the car should I need it. Especially with a daughter who's 2 hours drive away.

Also I'd rather top up £20-40 than the majority of the tank at £80 or more.

My other half does the opposite, picked me up from the station in her SL and the fuel light came on!! So then sinks £80 into the tank and goes "it costs so much to fill up". Yes if does because you've left it three weeks. £20-30 a week in fuel isn't bad but I personally think that seems less of an impact on the wallet paid out in bits and pieces! Haha

I do recall when I was at college so working part time topping up my first car with £5 or £10 to keep me going. Started working full time at 19 and been brimming the car ever since.

Brim it but recently Shell has a bonus scheme on where if you fill up dead on exact amounts then you get bonus points, so currently only putting £80 on the dot into the workvan, and £60 odd or whatever it is in the mb

I played that game the other week. Got bang on for the extra points. :D Otherwise, I'd have brimmed it.

Who else bounces the car to get the air pockets out of the tank when filling, just to get that little bit extra in!? :D

Put in the appropriate amount of Redex then brim the tank every time.

If you overfill it past a couple of clicks, isn't there a chance will spill out at the first bend or roundabout you go around and leave a stain on your bodywork?

Isn't that why there's a filler cap, to stop fuel coming out?

That's why I only go up to the first click nowadays - had that happened to me on a hilly bendy road in Nassau a few years back ...

Is it fully airtight?
Fords of course are capless.

The cap should be, surely? Isn't there a breather pipe further down that vents behind the wheel arch liner?
