Do You Miss Driving Your Car?

Interesting thread you have started here. Personally I'm in limbo regarding cars. I cannot work out if I'm bored of driving or just bored with my car. Everyone says I have a fantastic car and it must be me, but sadly those comments haven't helped. They could be true, but historically I remember enjoying driving a big comfy saloon. I need to drive a few different cars, mainly an S class and then make an informed decision whether I buy one or get a micra! Lol

I know how you feel, I went through a rough patch of indifference/thinking I didnt really care about cars or what I drive anymore.
The thing that actually helped me was attending a gtg. talking with other enthusiasts etc and getting ideas again.
I think now the company car will be going back next year and I will just be using my latest purchase.

I have mostly moved away from performance orientated stuff on the road as I was finding it tiresome to drive within the not going to prison limits and the frustrating hold ups of slower cars.

I am enjoying driving all over again, I will admit sometimes it is nice to drive something serious that makes you sweat even in the winter, but just for a weekend!

Right now, any excuse to take out the smooth relaxing 300d is jumped at, I don't see that changing at all!

It doesn't have blistering car performance and is not uber comfortable or well equipped like many of the chariots owned by forum members; nor does it do handling but my little van makes me smile every time I drive it and I genuinely look forward to the next time…………I just love the unexpectedness of the engine gearbox combination in a van, especially from a standing start or at the top end.

I loved my Vito Dualiner 120. What a van that was!

I get the exact same bug, since giving up biking I brought a nice car and it's a passion, had some spinal surgery a few weeks back and couldn't drive, it was sooooo painful having the wife cart me around, so I drove, and crashed into a concrete pillar in my new car. 2 days after the surgery I even payed someone to polish the car because I couldn't and it drove me nuts looking at it dirty, then got angry and polished it as he was s###, then put myself back in hospital, where the crash took place. My pals and neighbours think I'm nuts but it's a passion not a chore definitely for me

Two days after surgery! Thought I was pushing it two weeks after spinal surgery and I was! Couldn't wait any longer, though. :D

I think I must be getting old. I now want something with more boot space. I have never really been into out and out sports cars, but do enjoy a performance saloon. I liked the go anywhere and chuck everything into the boot of my partner's old grand Cherokee but it was possibility the nastiest car ever to drive. How do MLs drive? Any better or do they wobble at the slightest imperfection on the road? I'm definitely warming to an S class

MLs are great. The later model, the better the car will be dynamically.

I think you'd like a W164 ML500 - the pace of a performance saloon, the size and go-anywhere feel of the Jeep, and fairly sharp dynamically :thumb:

Despite mine being a lowly 320 derv i miss driving the 211, usually because i dont like getting it grubby on the salted roads lol

Exactly - those winter months of none driving are torturous.

I can't wait until the spring has sprung and I will un-SORN my E36 and go for a spin.

Love to drive my new Range Rover too. What a car! Black though - really needs a wash.

Now I am a gentleman of leisure and my miles have dropped from 30K to <5K each mile is now more enjoyable.

Went for a short spin to a few canal marinas today to try and buy a Christmas present for a canal boater and just pootling a few lanes in the RR was really quite nice. As was a growl along the slip road onto the M42.

Sounds ridiculous I like to keep my car the best I can, garaged, only oem parts , full mercedes service history ( subjective!) Yet I've only done 700 miles since last December.

Seems a waste and it seems Iike I'm keeping it pristine for the next future owner. I also use the Mrs W203 C200k on a daily basis, when I do use my car I know it's no 60k car! It just feels great.

We don't have a car here any more. We don't need one, there is nowhere to go and in the summer there isnt anywhere to park.

Sometimes I think a car would be nice, especially when I am back in the UK where my fridnds and family have some smart wheels.

However, on my return on Friday night, I realised I don't miss a vehicle all that much. Strange because I have been a petrol head all my life.

Our scooter is all we need.

Ps I bought a KTM on Saturday!

A car is designed/ment to be driven. Any day, all day.

Bit like buying a fantastic leather suite and keeping the plastic covers on it, why?? Use it and enjoy it...

I like to keep my car clean but I can only clean it if I've made it dirty!

Drive your car, it will love you for it. Rewarding you with greater reliability, more miles between services....

My car tends to be used at weekends or on our longer trips these days. Most of our local and shopping trips (I hate supermarket car parks!) are in our little Ka, which is really perfectly adequate for our everyday needs. The whole driving experience is so much more pleasurable that I do miss driving my car and look forward to using it after two or three days of Ka motoring. :D

Just back from a week in the USA in a very very poor Chevvy something. Plenty of driving there but I do miss my car. Getting back into it reminds me how much better it is than some of these American sedans.

I need another microdiscectomy as The same bulge has come back on mri, needless to say I have kept the polishing and driving to myself when having consultation

I used to look forward to starting my E63 and going for a drive. I still enjoy wafting along in the 7 but it's a different kind of enjoy.

Not the same specialness of the AMG

I was going to post here the other day, as I've only driven about 30 miles in the last three months! I've been away on business in that time, and walk to my workplace each day. I had to drive to my office this morning to pick stuff up, and the battery is flat!

I'm in my S211 E500, and the clock started going round and round, with various messages coming up on the speedo, so I hope I don't incur problems when I get a jump from the AA later. If not, I'm looking forward to a 200 mile journey after work tomorrow!

I miss driving in general. I work in Central London, I don't go to supermarkets and don't really have a lot of reasons to drive anywhere. I'd like to have a job where I could commute in car but unfortunately big money are in London.

So my C63 is growing roots, sometimes not being used for 2-3 weeks.

I've been driving the wife's car for the last 5 days (audi q7) Disneyland and back in it I can't wait to get my c63 back tomorrow so I can "drive" again I seen 1 yesterday at Calais if your on here sorry if I was staring it's just I miss mine :)
