Drivers seat stuck completely forward and Mercedes want to 'cut it out'??

Morning everyone. Ive just recently purchased a W208 CLK 320 and love it!
Last Friday I put the drivers seat all the way forward to clean the back and now its stuck in this position. All other electric seat functions work except for the forwards and backwards. Which being stuck all the way forwadr at 6'4" tall is a pain!
Ive tried everything found using the seach on these forums,....fuses are fine, tapped the motor with a hammer and pulled the connecting wore blocks from the unit under the drivers seat to try and reset but to no avail.
My mechanic, who is very good has also tried to remove the seat to replace the motor but is unable to get to the 2 bolts at the front as the seat is over them.
He has taken it to Mercedes garage and spoke to their main service manager who has advised cutting the seat out, replacing the motor and buying a new seat.
This seems a tad extreme to me, surely there is another way of moving the seat back to take it out??????? Any suggestions?

Mike.
Did you ever get your seat fixed? Mine is the same way stuck forward on 2000 clk. Anyone got a r&r picture on how to remove the leather to get to the motors?

Why couldnt Mercedes have taken the problem solving approach rather than cut out and replace? seems mechanics, sorry technicians these days dont have any skills or problem solving techniques other than hash bash or replace.

Todays Mechanics at dealers simply play with a keyboard that tells them what part to replace... I'm surprised they need tools anymore.... hence the very good indies out there who go above and beyond to help their customers.

One thing to check on all this is the Wiring loom in the door jam for any breaks, they go brittle after time AND if your JEEP they're cut 6" short deliberately and break. I've had to make up looms to compensate for this and solder/hard wire in.. once done life is good! :thumb:

Hello all- I think this is my first post, so rather than post another thread of a similar subject, ill hijack this one, if I may- and might be able to offer a bit of help although id value you opinion, before i start throwing money about unnecessarily.

I’ve owned a CLK 230 Kompressor for about 6 weeks now.

Today, I went to move the drivers seat (I’m in the UK- so its on the LHS!) and it would not move back, but moved forward ok. Googled the problem and advise suggested window open and move all the way to the front as they ‘loose’ their memory…So I did this am then the seat was full-forward, with little or no access.

So, I read about removing the 2 captive 10mm nuts, as advised in a thread, and that at least gave me access (sort of) to the 2 motors. I’m getting no feed to the one nearest the front and the one nearest the rear -for the up and down- would get 12v. Great- so using a 12v spare battery. I was able to unplug the defective motor and put 12v on THE TWO HEAVY WIRES OF THE FOUR (from memory, they are grey and black)- they are the same colour as the other motor wires (which only has two wires anyway) and move the seat in any direction- this is the bit that might be of use to others- at least you can move the seat!

It looks like the seat will have to come out to remove the controller- but I’m less fussed now as at least I can control the motor to get to the mounting bolts of the seat.

One relay clicks in the controller when you call for forward and none for calling for reverse (backwards)- but of the door control switch- the seat only moves forwards.

So, my question is- Motor controller or door switch?

As a side issue, I’ve had the battery run flat after about a week of not driving the car and I know that these seat controllers have been blamed for causing this defect. My reluctance to undo the seat is only the threat of rain- but Ill happily do that when I’ve more time next week and the rain, if it comes, becomes less of a threat!

Dear Guys, i have the same problem with my passenger seat, its stuck all the way back, all fuses in the front and back are ok.
how do I remove the cushions to access the motor?
thank you

Why is that a "fail"? The latest poster has a problem and is asking for help. What difference does it make how many previous posts there have been?

If s/he had reached out about a more common problem, there would have been snide replies saying to look at previously posted threads.

So, can anyone help or not?
