Hi all,

I have a slightly strange request.

What would the expected mpg for a W210 E300TD saloon auto be? We (my company) reimburse someone for their fuel expenditure incurred on our behalf.

The last claim is for £339 of fuel on 1019 miles of business journeys.

At £1.40 per litre, and if my maths is on the right track, the mpg on those figures is approx 18.9. I think something is amiss somewhere along the line, is it not?

wear and tear on the car, service costs, insurance have you allowed for this,vs hire car.
What is it at the moment, everyone is crawling all over expence claims I think that is a reasonable claim all things considered

At 33ppm are you sure they've not also charged you for wear&tear, insurance etc?

The agreement between us is to reimburse fuel expenditure. My suspicion is that he is handing in all his fuel receipts regardless of how they were incurred. Not what we agreed.

Would it harm your relationship with him if you suggest you reimburse at a fixed rate, say 20ppm?

I claim 40p per mile,or 45cent in ireland which I think ok,so 33p is cheap if there is honesty in fuel used & not taking the p*ss

A 300TD saloon will average about 33mpg if a fair bit of town use is involved, 36 mpg if it's more out of town.

As above; Mine does slightly more; 34/35 average. Consistently 44/45 on Scottish trips. :)

This the thing - all trips are 100 miles plus. If that were my S211, I would get between 45 and 50 mpg. Against 18.9, something doesn't add up, despite the older technology engine.
