Not direct competitors, but at 2009, roughly the same price and similar engines etc - which would you guys choose?

630i

As you say - not direct competitors - the 630i sits a tier higher.

So by that reckoning, the 630 represents better value I guess....especially as running costs are probably not much different....

Actually, thinking about it, the 6 series is based on the 5 (platform) if the E coupe had really been 212 based, they would have sat at the same level (technically), but as the E coupe is 204 based (mostly) it sits (as you say) one tier below.. :D

I think the 6 series looks dated now.

630i is quite underpowered.

If you are happy tootling around it should be fine.

645i is normally the best compromise petrol.

E-class, no bias, honest!

Looked at the 6, can't get on with how dated it is now and for the size of it, not a great deal of room inside. Only the models with upgraded sound system and newer i drive system appeal to me because standard speaker set ups in the 6 are nothing short of dire. Saw a 6 Grand Coupe thing yesterday and it actually looked quite nice.

E350 every time.

But you are talking about a car that is now nearly 10 years old vs a car that is 3 years old, the new 6 series is a different matter.

Just contract a nice 640i, there have been some ridiculous deals on them, the guys on the BMW forums were hiring them for £329 a month plus vat. For a £61,000 car that is madness!

It's a shame the 630i is so damn ugly.

It's not that pretty.

But the W212 styling on the E-Coupe? So good that MB are ditching it at the front and toning it down at the rear on the W212 at the first opportunity.

Side by side with the E350 the 630i? It's a beauty contest between 'not that pretty' against 'not quite as bad a dogs breakfast as the W212'.

I don't think any of those deals are available now, certainly not for that price.

incredible deal, even if the car is pig ugly

Neither both of those cars are seriously flawed to even consider buying, as much as I love BMW don't touch a 630i that engine chassis, gearbox are a bad mismatch, you need to be in 640i territory and the build quality of the MB is just a joke for that money feels like a 7 year old car after only a few months as well as having the handling of a cross channel ferry :D

Best of the crop in that territory for me at the moment would be Audi. :ban:

The deal was for the newest, 640i or 640d.

Plus they come with everything as standard, so great for contract hire deals.

I have to disagree, I think the E Coupe is one of the best looking Mercs they have ever produced.

And there are some 6-month old models (640d) with as much as £30k off list knocking about, make for a pretty interesting proposition - scary depreciation though!

But some will still have bought them new with cash because "using finance is a mugs game!" hahaha

And they will no be reeling from seeing the prices, must admit I looked at a couple but couldn't believe the price point for them so stayed well away - one of them (new) ex-demo 640d M-Sport Coupe in April, was £64,950.. now same car is £25k less and less than 10k miles, reckon could offer £5k+ less and the dealer would be grateful for removing it from their forecourt. But how much more will they lose in the next 6 months?
