Eescaped prison sentence for 140+mph

"Driving when I'm driving"?

¿Que?

RWD didn't answer your question as far as I can see so I'll attempt to do so on his behalf. I suspect he meant that when he's driving he concentrates on that activity alone and doesn't distract himself with chats on the phone, looking around at the scenery, thinking about what to have for dinner tonight, etc. I applaud him for that and always try to do the same. However, he really needs to be aware that unfortunately there are far too many drivers (the majority I fear) who don't maintain an adequate level of concentration and are more than likely to do something stupid. At a high closing speed even the most fastidious and capable driver will have little time to react accordingly.

PS: I too have driven at speeds above 100mph on UK roads (both before and after the national limits were introduced). But I've never done so when there have been other cars around - because I wouldn't have known if they were being driven by sleepy idiots or the police!

Thanks and correct, knighterrant.

So, brucemillar - please don't drive at 140mph in the UK. It's dangerous and illegal.

Everyone else, please don't assume only idiots drive at 144mph, some drive at 60mph.

SPX, you're cool and always have the right answer for the judge.

Goodnight.

Once and once only I had my Gsxr 750 up to the top speed.

Tbh it was for a very short time, the motorway was empty and visibilty/conditions were perfect.

I will never do it again. I now plod around on a little old scooter.

"I overtook a marked police car at 90mph in North Wales on an A road. He continued at 80mph."

Why would you even do that? If you did indeed do so, that is just not cricket, IMHO.

I once caught up with a Vx Senator on high speed pursuit training on a rural A road. Considering what I was driving I was pretty happy.

Pah, I regularly had my Gilera up to it's top speed, generally in broad daylight, with plenty of other road users around.

Again, my view is that distractions, not speed, are primary cause of every accident.

You may be wrong.

Department for Transport Research Database:-

"A study of the accident literature showed that driver errors recorded as 'Looked but failed to see' (LBFTS) were found to contribute to upwards of 10% of accidents in surveys conducted in a number of countries. In a UK 'on-the-spot' survey of accident causation, LBFTS ranked third in order of importance as a contributory factor, after 'lack of care' and 'driving too fast'. A re-analysis of these data showed that LBFTS constituted almost half of all perceptual errors made in daytime accidents by drivers who were unimpaired by alcohol, drugs, fatigue, illness, or stress; being far more important than 'distraction, 'lack of attention or alertness', 'faulty interpretation' and 'misjudged speed or distance'."

Racing the local milk float, no doubt? :D

Sounds dangerous to me. I respect the multiple hazards on A, B and City streets and keep things slow and don't try to reach my driving limits even within the speed limits. Instead I make up time on motorways, which have far fewer hazards and are statistically safer. But I bet you'll get all the 'likes' on here.

From what your saying, you are one of the most dangerous drivers on the road. One who thinks he's better than he actually is and knows everything so there's nothing else to learn.

Just hope you don't take anyone out when you have an (probably large and catastrophic) crash.

Do yourself and everyone here a favour and at least go and spends some money on some advanced driving courses - you might learn something but more importantly might save someone else from injury.

One who thinks he's better than he actually is and knows everything so there's nothing else to learn.

How did you decide that? I don't, like you, go for a blast on seemingly deserted roads to come back with a smile.

Remember this: you know your car, you know the road, you know your limits, but you never know what's round the corner.

I don't drive at extremes to get a buzz, I don't do track days, I don't modify my car for speed, performance or anything else. I drive from A to B like a poser in a Burberry jacket - look at me I have a 6.3, that's it.

My whole argument has been that speed is not the only factor to be concerned about. Nothing was mentioned about my inabilities, which you turned into abilities.

"you never know what's round the corner"

Even more sobering: I think "What if I meet MYSELF, driving as I usually do, coming round that blind corner?"

its the unfairness that gets me
copper doing 140mph - disciplined but not prosecuted
these two 140 mph - ban, fine & CS
biker 120 mph - 6 months in prison !!!

discrimination and bias me thinks

Depends on the circumstances, surely?

very unfair to biker who was jailed and car drivers not fo doing 20 mph more. This is an unfair corrupt Britain. The cars were also folowing far far to close to each other. Life sucks. T

An interesting insight into the mindset of a stereotypical C63 driver.

An interesting insight into the limited mindset of someone that very selectively copies/pastes because they can't hold a proper debate. My post was referring to all others that break the speed limit and these guys unfortunate mistake of getting caught.

Or are you saying no one else breaks the speed limit and if they do, they are caught?

I'm saying (and I can't believe that it needs to be spelled out) that if you think it's fine to drive at 144mph on public roads whilst racing and tailgating another car then you made a foolish mistake long before you were caught.

Clearer for you now ?
