F1 2024

As I said. Lead car usually pits first. Lando benefited on both stops handing him 2 undercuts on his team mate.
It’s not up to Lando who gets to pit first… Clearly Oscar would feel that he had been done over, but Lando is ahead in the championship and had pole. In the end, I guess it’s up to the team.

Indeed it isn’t. But had they pitted Oscar first and Lewis undercut Lando?

Split opinions in our house. I say the team made the right call. Mrs Ant says they didn’t. I’m most likely wrong. 😁
McLaren got a 1-2, so from a team viewpoint a great result. Lando has said that Oscar did a better race, so let’s see what transpires over the rest of the season. IMHO Oscar now owes one to Lando.

I thought it was a great strategic race. Pays to be Papaya! I'm sure they made the right call and kept some form of 'team mates' in the team. Lando will get over it and will benefit in the end from having both drivers ready to obey team calls.
I was sorry to see the return of Mad Max. Life isn't fair all of a sudden now he doesn't have an overtly superior car...and still to face the stewards.

Sorry, make that 'Flying Mad Max'....and I'm really surprised that the cars survived that with apparent damage:eek:

Leopards rarely change their spots.

I hope he receives a (long overdue) penalty that’s significant enough to deter his bad-tempered excesses, but I doubt it will happen.

He doesn’t ever consider that he has done anything wrong. No amount of punishment will change that.

I think that’s the truth of the matter.

Any penalty would in his mind be unjustified and an affront to be challenged. That’s the trouble with letting him have the benefit of the doubt too often in his earlier career.

I agree. Max should have been reigned in (or thrown out) by the authorities years ago.

The radio messages between Max and the pitwall revealed some rather deep cracks in the wafer thin veneer of RBR today. It looks like they are beginning to lose the plot and I don’t personally know anybody that is sad about that, mainly because of the toxicity they have brought to F1 in recent years. Hens coming home to roost perhaps.

Edit -
From the BBC “Trying to pass Hamilton in the closing stages of the race, the pair collided.

Verstappen, who has been called to the stewards to review the incident, said the Mercedes driver had caused it because he was breaking the rules by changing his line under braking.

Hamilton argued that he was simply turning into the corner on his normal line. The stewards agreed and took no further action against either driver.”

Seems like they’re scared to rock the boat. 🙄
Watching Ant Davidson’s analysis, it did look more like a racing incident* than a clear slam-dunk penalty against Max. Max on the other hand as usual is simply blaming Lewis.

*Horner to his credit, said the same.

If Verstappen had been able to turn into the corner he might have a point.

But he wasn't turning in after the lockup.

My view is that Verstappen was fed up being behind and was going to barge past - and actually messed up his usual level of over-aggression and lost control of his car. He overcooked it.

Lando and Max are both incredibly quick drivers.
Only one of them seems to have a sense of right and wrong.

But only one will ever be World Champion.

I may sound harsh but I think McLaren have made multiple mistakes this season - and today they made another one - but they should have been thinking of the vestiges of a chance for the World Drivers' championship and just let the mistake of pitting the wrong driver first go.

Vettel, Hamilton, Alonso, Schumacher, Verstappen, Senna would never have let the position go in these circumstances.

I watched it today..... not seen one for ages as I find it a bit boring compared to other motor sport......the racing was pretty good.... bit then it went silly.
Team orders is NOT racing and should not be allowed.....
I think I'll leave it again..... until I've again got nothing better to do!!! :D

I'm guessing Mr Horner has data / technical opinion that had his driver been less petulant and more level headed then chances are he would have got third.

And those lost points may well prove to be critical in the Constructors' Championship.
