F1 2024

I saw the David Coulthard snub and was less than impressed. There enjoying the perks of celebrity but giving nothing back. If he's in say, a restaurant or any other setting just going about his daily life absolutely his right to privacy is sacrosanct but in a setting that is only available due to celebrity status, behaving like a celebrity and interacting with those who afford him that status is part of the deal.
Absolutely agree, being a celebrity guest of Mercedes, walking the pit walk and waving the flag at the side of the track surely means that he is part of the “show”.

Couldn't agree more, absolutely bang on point.

Yep.

I think Mr B May should sit in the grandstands with all the minions next year. Then he’ll not be too worried about talking to the media on the grid. 👍

If you’re lucky enough to have the access he had the very least he (and all the others) can do is have the odd brief chat.

Not unexpected, but another driver looking for a seat next year.
I fear K Mag and Bottas could both be in their last season of F1.

Who wants to guess who Carlos Sainz will drive for next season?
I'm guessing Antonelli will miss out and Mercedes will sign him.

David Coulthard is chairman of the British Racing Drivers Club who just happen to own the Silverstone racing circuit.

If you’re referring to the snub at the British GP, there he was just another presenter, so his other credentials carried no weight, at least with the walking floor mop knight.

Why, was May - or indeed any celebrity - asked to wave the chequered flag? What to a celebrity is that when they attend so many events as VIPs? Think what (metaphorically/virtually) randomly drawing a child's ticket and granting it and its family access-all-area passes culminating in waving the chequered flag would have meant for that family. A truly unforgettable day for the rest of their lives. How long in May's memory does that day survive? For sure, the way it was done was no PR win for Silverstone or F1.

Why are "celebrities" given free admission to race meetings? Is it because the crowds are swelled by hordes streaming in to see them? From what I can see they ponce around the paddock and grid waiting to be collard by some presenter to utter some banal crap and then vanish for another year. What,of any value, do they contribute? The racing would not suffer by their absence.

Celebrities are often guests of teams, (mostly) sponsors and drivers. Some will be hospitality and some will be paid “Brand Ambassadors”. They’re not really there for the crowd and the viewers at home, they’re there mostly for other non-celebrity guests.
