F1 2024

^^ not surprised, thought I’d read a few months ago that there was a ‘no poaching’ clause in Hamilton’s contract.

non-solicitation clauses are fairly standard in contracts in many sectors.

So anybody writing about a driver's contract could assert that such a clause was present.

The problem with such clauses is that they become meaningless if somebody leaves and other individuals choose to follow.

True…

In this case, my guess would be that Bono doesn’t want the upheaval that comes with moving away from Mercedes to work with/at Ferrari?

Same with Adrian Newey, though I thought that he might fancy the challenge(s) at Ferrari, he may not want to relocate to Maranello.

When the separation from Red Bull was being reported I was thinking it was likely about the challenge.

The way the press has reported big money around Mr Newey and Mr Jordan as his agent then it leaves the impression from the numbers of simply looking for a big end of career payoff. That may be unfair on my part - and also the reporting is not the whole story - but that's the impression.

Despite EJ's involvement,I think Adrian's choices will now be emotive rather than financially driven. A walk on the red side or a Stroll on the dark side?:dk:

Back in November 1985 Jan Lammers and I shared a flight from Macau to Malaysia to start work together with TWR Jaguar. We would work together in sportscars for the next 8 years at both Jaguar and Toyota.

Jan was born in Zandvort and was instructing at the Rob Slotemaker skid school as a young teenager.
There is a picture on his hall wall of a pair of hands on the wheel of a BMW touring car completely sideways. If you look very carefully you can just see his eyes through the steering wheel.
We had some great success in sportscars, none more so than the Le Mans win in 1988 alongside Andy Wallace and the late Earl of Dumfries.
He was later to become a BTCC hero at the wheel of a Volvo estate car.
I had the pleasure of spending a few days with him at the Zandvort Skid school in the late '80s and learning more about car control than at any other point in my life.

Here, it's already 20 years ago since met to discuss the purchase of some race cars in his office.
He went on to become a team owner and more recently, as the F1 GP returned to Zandvort, the boss of the circuit.

Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together?

Looking forward to the race today. Awesome lap from Lando yesterday. (Nearly 4/10th’s quicker than Max on such a short circuit!!!) Shame Oscar couldn’t bag 2nd but 3rd means both McLarens start on clean side of grid. Let’s hope a 1-2 within the first lap AND at the chequered flag. (Funny how a boring race is acceptable if it’s your team at the front. 😁)

Yes great lap from Lando, I hope he gets a clean start and consolidates his pole position.

Was expecting Hamilton/Mercedes to use the opportunity and take a new engine and start from the back after his poor showing yesterday.

Martin Brundle didn’t take to Checo calling Lewis an ‘idiot’.

“That ‘idiot’ is an (some would say) 8 time World Champion.” 😁😂🥳

Checo's comment is just indicative of current attitudes, i.e. showing respect to someone is a sign of weakness, so don't do it. Hamilton knew he'd screwed up, Checo was just piling on to make sure that the stewards got involved.

I saw something on social media yesterday that Max has referred to Hamilton as an 8-time champion, admitting that had the rules been applied correctly in '21, the championship would have deservedly gone to Hamilton. Probably 'fake news'...

Nice to see Lando win today. Certainly looks like the dominance of the Red Bulls is over, which I'm pleased about. Finally F1 is worth watching again.
Once Lando gets his start off the line honed, he will become even harder to beat.
A 20+ second gap back to MV was pretty impressive.

As for the rest, a solid race from LeClerc and Piastri's time will come. He will add to his one GP win this season.
8th about the best LH could hope for after his pretty disastrous qualifying yesterday. Russell just slipped back and disappointing.

Looking at Ant Davidson’s analysis, it looks like both McLarens had the same issue in phase 2 of the launch. The garage need to figure out what’s happing.

Lies, damn lies and statistics! MS and LH both have 7 titles.....I can't see LH ever getting another though. LH 105 race wins and MS 91. The record books will show LH as the greatest...for now!
