F1 2024

So with hindsight (IMO) Piastri's move at the start in effect cost McLaren a one-two. Norris would be closer at 52 points behind Verstappen in the drivers' standings and McLaren would be 2 points ahead in the constructors' standings.

Hi,
Maybe Mactech can confirm this - but I believe that the Constructors championship is seen as more important to teams (probably for sponsorship & financial reasons) whereas for most fans - it’s the Drivers championship that is more important to them.
For that reason - we often see a disconnect between the team strategy and what the fans would like to see happen during a race.
On two occasions now - I would have liked Lando to have prevailed over Oscar - even yesterday by yielding to him so that Lando could have scored 2nd place
Cheers
Steve
Yes, this is the case, but it is very rare that the two causes do not align. I haven't seen the Monza race so can't really comment on the specifics of this particular case. Certainly getting the most points as a team means getting the best drivers.
But when a team gets two of the very best drivers, then there is a long list of issues to be managed or contained. Ego, politics, ruthlessness and talent can be a toxic mixture as F1 history will prove.
All drivers are different, and there will never be a 'one method fixes all' solution to the power struggles which enliven top F1 teams.

....Just suppose your manager was Mark Webber who had been on the very wrong side of the odd 'multi 21' with Slob Kettle. Would you be likely to write a clause in a contract for your new young charger like this ?:dk: There could well be some truth in it!

Slob Kettle????
Not like you Mac!

I am not sure that Oscar will get so much room the next time he tries it.
I certainly hope that Lando is able to ‘man up’ and certainly think if I were him, I would not be helping Piastri from now on. Piastri has unfairly (imho) compromised Lando twice on the opening lap this season (Hungary and Monza) both times costing Lando points. If that’s the way he wants to go about racing his team-mate, then Lando needs to make it clear that it’s not on.

Lando needs to stop being nice during the race.
Its all very well coming across as the good guy in interviews, but he needs a bit more Hamilton(v Rosberg) Seb (v Webber) attitude toward his team mate.

Maybe Landos mate (Mad Max) needs to have a word on how to be a more narcissistic racer. It’s the one part of Max that I admire. No one wins championships being Mr Nice Guy.

....not to mention quite a few of his colleagues who found their mojo difficult to find in the current RB environment....
Interesting how RBR's form has dropped off and Newey announced his departure since the allegations about Horner's inappropriate texts/behaviour surfaced...

Lets hope it's not too late, Lando missing out on the championship by the points he could have had with better strategy would be very much a McLaren own goal.

Either way - we have a potential run in to the end of the season where there is competition for the WDC.

It feels a bit like Red Bull vs Brawn in the 2009 season with Red Bull the equivalent of Brawn - dominating the early part of the season and McLaren taking on the Red Bull role of hunting them down and getting close in the later part of the season.

Will be interesting if Oscar ends up much closer in points to Lando after this weekend now.
I think Lando has a car quick enough to trouble the podium tomorrow, despite his starting position….but don’t quote me on that!
