F1 2024

Interesting interview with Toto unreservedly apologising for letting Lewis down. (Team sending him out too late in Q1, which then saw him out!)
I know that tracks usually ‘wear in’ over the length of a session, but I’ve never understood why teams don’t always get in an early flying lap as a banker. In itself it’s unlikely to get drivers through to the next quali, but if things go tits up with matters beyond their control (like flying bollards) there’s more chance of progress than with no lap time.

It’s great to see that neither Lewis or the team are ever short of an apology to each other for their mistakes.

Something Team Red Bull never seem to do.

I think Mercedes have always been open and honest with all dealings with drivers and staff, just like that other team in Milton Keynes.....perhaps!

It's all a fine balance of risk and reward, that and dealing out the 'meagre' tyre rations at exactly the right time.
When the strategists get it right everyone assumes that it all just happens, when they get it wrong the whole world knows!

Ah yes, I’d forgotten about the tyre rationing.

Get your next Ferrari here....

Lives available at additional cost. POA....;)
Don't worry too much! Bernie will have done the very right deal with Hartley! In fact, I wonder if Bernie is paying commission on the cars he sells or Hartley is paying for the privilege of selling Bernie's cars....:dk:😂🤣 That sounds more like a Bernie deal😁
Quite the opportunity for Tom!

That said there aren’t many outlets to sell so many F1 cars through. There are too many cars to sell in a single auction or even a short series of auctions without limiting sale prices. Auction prices are in the public domain too, so could limit values.

I’m surprised Bernie hasn’t been drip feeding them off-market for a few years to get best value, however perhaps in his senior years perhaps recognises the value of keeping them linger was more valuable than the realisable cash value.

Lewis for the driver of the day for me, just pipping LeClerc and Piastri.
LeClerc did some very early laps magic.
Piastri managed to drive a gruelling, demoralising race after being rammed off on corner 1 by a tool showing a true reflection of his attitude to F1 racing over his career. Lewis made consistent progess over the entire race. If a safety car had come for the Bottas crash, it would have been a podium for Lewis IMO (not that you can rely on that).

Bottas a bit unlucky with that crash due to what looked like circuit conditions, possibly also affecting Piastri under braking for his penalty.

But all in all, a good finish to the season with both Norris and Piastri as cool as ice during the race doing what they needed to do. Super impressed with these two guys.

It was clearly a very emotional event for Lewis, Bono, Toto and all in the Mercedes Team.

His last lap overtake around the outside of his teammate showed the sheer class he has as a driver that a certain other World Champion still lacks.

That same other driver would have simply driven Lewis off the circuit...

I suspect that overtake had a bit to do with the better grip that his tyre strategy had given him, but it was definitely something he was determined to do ever since he realised he had 14 seconds to make up, and he drove superbly to put himself in that position. I sincerely hope it helps to rejuvenate him and restore his confidence for next year.

As for that other driver, "I mean, I was just super unlucky, I was all the way up the inside before the crash" - as delusional as ever.

Well done Mclaren F1 Racing. :thumb:While we rightly see a lot of Zak Brown as team principal I suspect this guy may also have played a large part their recent success.

Obviously, I put most of his recent success down to his choice of reading material....😂🤣

...he also is the owner of one of the TWR Jaguars from the late 80's.
Ironically, the car on the front cover is my charge from Le Mans 1989 driven by Jan Lammers. Possibly our least successful year...when Mercedes won!

The sale of Bernie's car collection and the Brabham fan car got me thinking about the time F1 cars got really creative.
I'm sure we all remember the 6 wheeled Tyrrell?Image 2.jpg

But how many can remember an 8 wheeled March?:dk:

I recently came across this photo taken outside the Mach factory in Bicester in the mid seventies. It seems my very first racing driver, Alex Ribeiro and his mate Nelson Piquet were having a bit of a giggle....🙃
