F1 2024

The guy I sold my racing helmet collection to had just got briefcase from Herbie Blash (in elephant skin:eek:) which was given to him by Bernie. That will be carefully stored and not for sale until Bernie and his clogs have been parted.
That is probably not long now as Bernie has just decided to sell his multi-million pound racing car collection.....
Bernie has done very well to still be 'at the crease'. Always thought that he would find himself in some rich and powerful person/organisations cross-hairs at some point.

Astonishing really how his efforts to save F1 (which proved ultimately to be very profitable for him of course) at a time when nobody was interested in it, are forgotten. He is/was very astute but nevertheless, stuck his neck out at the time. All people can see now is his considerable wealth, but there is more to him than that. A very very sharp and quirky individual.

My 95 year-old father remembers Bernie when he started off selling second-hand lino out the back of a clapped-out van. Then as a used motorcycle dealer, then as a used car dealer, long before he became involved with Le Grand Poulet de Bicester(*) ;)

As mentioned, a very sharp individual.

* James Hunt's nickname for Max Mosley

Yes, for all their quirks, faults and foibles, F1 would be much poorer without Max, Bernie and Charlie.
It now seems to take battalions of people to do what they once achieved....whilst still doing their 'day jobs'

I guess the circus is substantially bigger and more complex than it was back then…

Is this the UK Government (public/civil service) problem of "beaurocracy expands to overfill the funds allocated to it"?? Not a new problem - in 1987 the ward sister where my late Dad spent his last 3 months commented that "I asked for an additional nurse on each shift, was instead told to remove 1 nurse from each shift, but when the pen pushers want a new printer or computer they get it immediately!!".

Comparing apples with oranges perhaps?

Cost of providing a printer; a few hundred quid?
Cost of employing a nurse; a hundred thousand quid a year?

As for F1 of the 1980’s compared to the F1 of today; another case of apples v oranges. Everything about the ‘sport’ now is much bigger, massively more complex and feeds a 24/7 news/media cycle. The levels of investment and expectations are astronomical. Tying it all together is really something to be admired.

A sign of things to come?

Basically, having lost a race last week, the organisers have now added an extra race for the final round at Abu Dhabi.

Get a life GJ - since when, especially 1987 when my comment referred to, does the cost of 1 nurse to the NHS equate to anything close to 100k, even now! It was the principle the ward sister was referring to - namely she's asked for something and been told no chance, cut your costs, whereas the pen pushers and box tickers get whatever they want. The NHS is a seriously over-pen pushered and tick boxer organisations ever, completely forgetting that they are there to provide front line services - which needs medicaland front line (I include cleaners, catering etc, not just doctors and nurses) staff not burocrats. It needs sorting - but guess who controls the reviews - yes, the pen pushers not the front line staff!

Get a life!? Thanks a lot…

It is, which has become a self-reinforcing circle jerk.

The thing is that the FIA are supposed to be the rule setter and referee. The shenanigans regarding the commercial operation (the “entertainment” bit) should be separate.

So why are the rule setters arguing about who should (potentially) investigate any impropriety by their president?

(Answers on a postcard to…)

Just talking about going to Qatar/Doha for the F1 in 2025, we have friends who live there, he is a Qatar Airways Captain, they love living there but just wondered if anyone had been to the GP there and their experiences?
I've been for the Moto GP 4 years ago, anything specific you'd like to know?

What an earner for Hartley Jnr.
Don't worry too much! Bernie will have done the very right deal with Hartley! In fact, I wonder if Bernie is paying commission on the cars he sells or Hartley is paying for the privilege of selling Bernie's cars....:dk:😂🤣 That sounds more like a Bernie deal😁

Interesting interview with Toto unreservedly apologising for letting Lewis down. (Team sending him out too late in Q1, which then saw him out!)
