Why would one put fake wheels on one's Mercedes? Or even worse case, on an AMG? Isn't it the same as wearing fake LV bag or fake designers clothes? Is it desire to look better than one really is?

'Look everyone, I am driving Benz with Expensive-Brand-Replicas! I couldn't afford the original ones but I still wanted to look like I made it to the big time!'

Isn't it like an AMG badge on non-AMG cars? Bad taste or lack thereof.

Your views, gentlemen.

Most people wouldn't even notice.

I imagine people who do fit replicas do so because they are affordable.

Fair points but most people wouldn't even notice an AMG badge on the car, still many fit them for the sole purpose of impressing everyone around? Wheels must be the same then?

Will we hear from reps owners on the subject?

Personally I'd rather have second-hand MB/AMG/Brabus etc rims rather than replicas, but I can understand the desire for them.

They're a LOT cheaper new, especially for the larger diameters and they often look exactly the same as the design they mimic. They are available in sizes different to the originals and to fit models not originally designed for.

If you want some big, attractive 19" rims for your car and don't fancy shelling out £4k for the Brabus rims (which are grossly overpriced by almost anyone's standards) then for a quarter of that price you can pick up some replica/fake rims which are made to almost exactly the same standards and materials, look the same and will likely have no ill effect to your driving experience at all. Seems like a no-brainer to me!

Reps already fitted to my car when I bought it. Do I care? Not really. Although I have bought a set of OEM AMG's, but will probably sell them on.

In my opinion, cars shouldn't sport an AMG badge unless the car has been handled by the AMG factory.

Wheels on the other hand...meh!

Shude

I can see your point on grossly overpriced genuine alloys but Brabus was never a cheap brand to start with. LV or Breitling springs to mind too. Would you wear a fake Breitling or Rolex watch, even if it is too darn affordable to pass? And, when asked, would you gladly disclose you drive a car with fake wheels and wear a fake watch too? What else fake do you have on you Sir - the question will follow! ;)

Isn't it just peoples choice? does it MATTER?

Its all relative also, if you own a relatively in expensive Mercedes then surely someone isn't going to pay 'real' AMG / Brabus prices for wheels?

What makes be smile is whern you choose to upgrade your car buying new and tick the 'AMG' wheel option its still very exspensive and you don't get the standard wheels the car should have come with aswell.

ooh and the 'Proper' AMG wheels still corode in our climate just the same as 'replicas'

I know mercedes is an 'aspirational', maybe even 'elitest' make of car but you're havin' a laugh.. :ban:

As most have said already, its choice and I too had M3 replica wheels on my beemer years ago and it looked nice and most people didn't notice but who cares (definitely not me).

And yes I have got GENUINE AMG WHEELS on my SL and the corrosion on the wheels are disgusting and this on wheels that cost about £4,000.

I've got fake AMG wheels but a real Omega watch. The wife has a real LV handbag too. So go figure.

Of course everyone is allowed to do what they want to but that's not what my post is about! Inexpensive Mercedes, eh? Then AMG wheels on this inexepensive Mercedes will look ridiculous, if you ask me. Standard wheels look just right and the good thing about them - is they are genuine quality wheels, not Chinese made replicas of inferior quality!

Where are the purists when you need them? Or is everyone happy with others fitting fake garbage on their cars and pretending they own a real thing?? Hello!

As long as they are happy with it then hats off to them. No one is going to go and tell them, "hey, your car has fake AMG wheels on, wow". They have decided to put them on and are happy to do so. And as you rightly said, its their cars so they may well do what ever they choose to do with "their" cars.

I had replicas two of my cars, never had any problem with them
The first ones is because I liked the style, the second ones were dead cheap

I'm not having a laugh here I'll have you know! The question is serious one. Mercedes is not for everyone anyway so why diminish the brand? If one can't afford genuine wheels, one should work harder or enjoy what one has got. Harsh but true!

Well

My genuine C55 AMG came sat on a set of AMG reps.

Looks like it... Smells like it.. Feels like it.. Tastes like it.. Thank god I didn't stand in it.

I fake Louis Viton bag won't kill you.

A badly made replica from god knows where, could under the considerable stresses of weight and power fail with disasterous consequences.

Who knows how good a replica wheel actually is - with everything the quality will differ.

Just my pennyworth.

Hey, I'm not telling others what to do. But I guess the main question has been misinterpreted so I will shut up and never raise this subject again.

^^ The reality is the replica wheels are probably made by the same factory as the genuine wheels. It's just not comissioned by the vendor. Such is the case with most branded products these days! Replicas are big business in most industries.

You've got to be kidding me!? I couldn't afford my SL when it was new and when it came to be four years old and I could afford it, I bought it. So if someone buys a merc for say around £1,000 and there are lots about and decides to fit some AMG replica wheels which he/she really like, would you rather the person spend upwards of £1,000 - £3,000 buying genuine ones?
