Fake wheels

Fake wheels? Got me worried there, I thought someone selling something that wouldn't accept a tyre, nor fit a car.

If the wheel says AMG but it isn't then it's fake. If the wheel looks like an AMG but doesn't pretend to be one, then its a copy...nothing wrong with that.

This forum is for people who own Mercs, or like Mercs or whatever. The money in one's pocket has nothing to do with it. So, someone who has paid £500 for there pride and joy will have the same rights on this forum as someone who has spent £500,000.

If you want nice wheels buy them...do not be put off by any nonsense spouted by people who do not think you should do what you want to your car if it's not real.

Mercs are not aspirational...anymore than any new car might be aspirational.

It all depends on perspective.

I always buy used oem wheels rather than aftermarket versions, but that is only because I don't want hassle from the insurance company, who will often wriggle out of a claim if you have non oem wheels, and it makes it easier to sell, because some poeple are **** pricks who need to get over themselves.

Many oem rims are crap, they are the cheaper/heavier casts that the supplier offers, whether that be from Ronal, BBS or whoever. Mercedes, Audi, BMW will always go for the cheapest they can to maximise profit, and if you think otherwise you are seriously naive.

Some of the non branded replicas are of much, much better quailty and also a hell of a lot lighter then the oem equivalent.

You pays your money, you takes your choice. But the guy who doesn't have oem rims on his car may just be the clever one.

I'm not having a laugh here I'll have you know! The question is serious one. Mercedes is not for everyone anyway so why diminish the brand? If one can't afford genuine wheels, one should work harder or enjoy what one has got. Harsh but true!

People probably buy replica wheels for the same reason you are driving an 5 year old S500 rather than a lovely brand spanking new 2011 S500??

Why don't you swap your car every year??

Work a bit harder maybe??

^^ Couldn't have put it better myself! ;)

One needs to go to a chav forum where such horrendous attitudes are acceptable. You are all show. Its a matter of choice as to what one spends one's money on...one finds it difficult to drive one's three homes. And one chooses to drive an older car not for any lack of money but because it's one's choice...plonker.

I considered AMG monoblocks for mine but what put me off in the end was the AMG stamp on the wheel. I didn't want people thinking I was trying to make my car an AMG model. I'd rather have AMG "style" wheels as they don't have the stamp so perhaps more understated. They still have the same flat faced look, that's all I was interested.I couldn't care if they were made by BMW,Kia or whoever.

this is such a bullsh** thread i doubt the OP even has a benz.....
i was 18 when i got my 202 it had 2 piece AMGs on it FAKE AS HELL you think at 18 i want to drop 4k on rims....?? but now i can afford them its as when u can....... in the grand scheme of life rims are a small small small part of it.. its always nice to pick rims that look good for your car.... but i wouldent dream of slagging anyone off because of there rims... id rather have Fake amg's and brabus over real deal wolf race...

I know you are going to recount the Audi Rs4 in your example with OEM wheels buckling.

If you fit/modify the wheels, declare to insurance company so its all covered in the event of a crash.

Cars suspension are desgined around OEM wheels, their masses etc. Changing that and you may well undo all the millions of R&D that were done to make the car drive the way it does.

But its like so many things...

Pay your money, make your choices. Bosh MAF for £50, MB one for £70 when they are the same. Hard choice.

Try squeezing 'one' into a few more sentences....

I would like a set of genuine monoblocks for my w210,there are new replicas advertised locally at a low price but I would be worried about the effect on ride quality with the increase in unsprung weight.

Also the replicas are 8.5" wide all round wheras the real ones are 8" and 9" wide.On a slightly different theme, over here(n.ireland) you are more likely to see replica monoblocks on a VAG car than a Mercedes:dk:

i had rep Aero monos on my c180 rode really well....:dk::dk:

Maybe in reality the effects are not so noticable I suppose,I wonder what the actual difference in weight is?

If you want to reduce unsprung weight, put steel wheels on.

.

I would rather my mercedes was aspirational.

Unfortunately what it is, is rusty.

But I don't care. Really I don't. Much.

Well it is pretty annoying, I don't care about the rust but I do think that the manufacturer should be deeply ashamed. A nice design ruined by a poor execution. Yes it does bug me. 13 years I have had it. 9 of them with a sad brown scabbiness.

Issues, I think I have issues.

no offence but your are worrying to much.. you will fit 18" reps and hardly notice any difference at all.....hardly anything....

There are differences in quality in the finish especially on some of the fake 18 and 19 inch replicas available for newer models. The fake replicas made in China are no good, the ones made in Germany by Ronal and the like are ok I think.

I have just spent a packet though on some new 19 inch Genuine AMG rims for my E-Coupe, just waiting for them to arrive now.

C'mon guys, the OP just wanted a discussion and I think it has gone from that to a series of "bashing" for the OP including some from myself, lets be more friendly abnd accomodating as the thread has gone on for a bit now and especially as the OP has now retired from his/her keyboard...
