Following on from a post in THIS thread that mentioned it being reported that the value of motoring fines is £41 Billion per annum, I wondered how much people had been fined in the last 5 years.

I'm sure the report to the forum is accurate but it does seem very high per driver.

Please include all parking fines as well as driving conviction fines.

This is a secret poll, so no-one will know who has voted what.

Edit.
Thanks Spike.

More luck than judgement.
Went through a camera about 3 months ago at a speed which shall remain unspoken. Heard nothing, but the experience made me sharpen up my awareness.
So it remains a clean licence.

Voted zero because I personally have not clocked up any fines. However, I did have to pay the £50 congestion tax penalty once for someone else  who drove a car registered in my name into the rip-off zone:devil: I got my money back;)

0 none whatsoever.
but my sister got one.totally her fault parked and did not buy a ticket.
But then i like to fight for the few who have no voices:D .
Like the smoking ban even though i do not smoke.
Then again how accurate is this as i have not paid any parking charges either or parking meters.
if the parking is not free, i do not go or shop there and i have never used a parking meter.
As for picking people at the airport, if they cannot come over to drop off/pick up zone, then tough.
I Pay enough already

I'm wondering if this figure includes parking charges. Perhaps then it would make more sense.

How much do you think you spend per year in parking charges +congestion charges +tolls + penalties?

I could see how perhaps this could be £1k per year.

Can we keep this to fines though because I'd like to see the proportion of value of fines across the board members.

Also parking charges are A: valid and B: variable depending on a number of factors, such as employment.

Fines are avoidable.

Peterborough PCN revenue, per any one year.... How much do you think, less than £500k, between £500k and £1m, or over £1m?

Oi..setup your own poll Mr Hyjack...;) :D

Motoring offences and breath test statistics England and Wales 2005

Offences relating to motor vehicles, England and Wales 2005: supplementary tables

It's possible to work out a total on the basis of these. All motoring offences total about 13 million (majority of which are penalty charges). You'll need to calculate the subtotals for fixed penalties, penalty notices and court proceedings to get the total possible revenue.

Court amounts are provided (a bit over 127m). For penalty notices you get the totals, so based on an average penalty charge you can work out the lower and upper limits.

Back of the envelope calculation results in nothing anywhere near 14 billion, let alone 41 billion.

Use a fag packet whilst downing a few pints and watching the racing and reading the Holy Grail and you'll probably get close..

I 'voted' £151 - £499. All parking fines which are an unavoidable hazard in my job. Around my way of work all the roads are residents. The very few pay and displays are being taken over by Car Clubs, leaving you nowhere to legally park. This is proof to me that they are a tax!

They just get added to the overheads of our business, like, say electricity bills. It's the only way to work in London these days.

I have to agree, the figure seems somewhat high. A detailed breakdown I think is in order. All I have paid is a £30 parking pentally.

The average UK driver probably has paid an SP30 (i.e exceeding the statutory speed limit) @ £60 and a couple of parking tickets (£120). This is probably over estimating it IMO. Thats £240/motorist, no where near over a grand/motorist. To get that we will have all had to have been done for drink driving and fined rather heftily within the realms of the law. How many UK motorists have experienced this, not that many.
