I'm starting a new thread because its relating to the correct procedure for repairing an injector.

Can someone tell me what is the best thing to do here. Injector 2 has had some work previously because the bolt came out with helicoil on the end but onbviously failed, what is the correct procedure to fix this permanently.

Is it

1. Take out injectors?
2. take off cam cover?

.... what next, the bolt looks like a standard bolt

Thxs in advance, please give indepth advice, ie: reseating the injector with cutting tool, how is this done. thank you

I have not done this myself but read many threads on this and concluded that the cam cover does not need to come off but a helicoil or similar repair is a good enough repair.

You will get mixed replies as most swear that unless the seat is cut using the specialist tools, it's not a proper repair, however many have repaired theirs by cleaning the injector and seat carefully and thoroughly.
Ii can't go more indepth than that as I have not done it myself so maybe someone else can advise you further. Not surehow much you have looked but there are many, many threads on this

what is the helicoil process? trouble is with the cam cover on, my drill wont go under bulk head

Helicoils come with a special sized tap that the coil then threaded into.
You will have a slightly oversized hole so the easiest solution is a new coil of the same size fitted into the hole with the tool that comes with the coil kit and a new retaining bolt.
Don't forget to clean and redress the injector hole and clean out the bolt hole as you don't really want to disturb the coil again

What size is this bolt please? I have mentioned this has been helicoiled and failed, should i clue the bolt in once screwed? i dont want this failing again. Why MB have such a small bolt on a large injector is ludicrous

I think the bolts are M6 but would have to dig one out to check.
If this is correct mine have been re-tapped to 8mm and cap head bolts replaced the originals
But you would have to drill the fork to suit
There's plenty of threads that cover black death. If you study these you will see its most important to get the hole the correct depth and clean.
Helicoils don't usually fail though

Good luck

is this seat clean enough to continue?

The seat I believe is the bit inside the injector hole where the washer sits

How far down from the top of the whole?

Right at the bottom of the bigger hole where the seal sits.

I see, begs the next question, old ones still down there then, how do i get that out and clean the shaft? without taking cam cover off

I got one out yesterday using a very thin and lond screwdriver. Mine was fairly clean but used a piece of dowel and a clean cloth wrapped around it

The seat was also fairly clean and didn't look distorted in any way so again using a fine lint free rag (medical swab in my case) around a dowel and also the same stuff round the thin screwdriver (carefully) to clean what dirt I could see

Firstly this looks like a dirty seat, what size is the redrilling / cleaning are so the new copper washer sits well, also, there was no copper washer in the barrel??

The cylinder head is the injector washer sealing surface.

The injector retaining bolt clamps the injector and cam cover to the cylinder head, there are rubber seals under the cam cover that encircle the injector hole to stop oil entering the injector tube from the camshaft housing/upper cylinder head.

Use the cleaning kit I posted above, or similar, to clean the seat down the bottom of the injector tube.
