Formula 1 2020 (Will Contain Race Day Spoilers)

Well you have Mercedes and then way behind you have the rest, good news about Norris, but they are all fighting for minor places on the times posted today

Have to say a good result for Russell too who did really well in the lockdown sim racing and got ahead of the Alfas.

Hamilton was summoned by the stewards after qualy for two breaches.

1. Not slowing down for yellow flags in Q3 when Bottas went off. He was cleared as both a yellow and green light were shown
2. Not keeping to track limits on his first run in Q3. Time was deleted but he went quicker on his second run so kept P2 on the grid

Red Bull and Ferrari have launched another protest against Hamilton's 2nd place this morning and Hamilton has been into the stewards again. Watch this space!

I thought they had 30 minutes to lodge a protest or something like that. Surely doing the same investigation again the next day just stinks.

Lewis demoted to 5th according to SkyF1

Oh well, it'll Bottas's race to lose now.
Doesn't that put LH on the cleaner side of the track?

Yes. Needs a good start though

I guess we'll see if this makes for a decent race...

Odd sort of race, quite attritional.

All bit clumsy from Lewis, too many errors from him this weekend who hopefully doesn't go into a sulk. Great result for Lando and McLaren.

I don't think that was a bad move from LH and certainly not as aggressive as some moves that other drivers have done in the past without a penalty. He was in front at the start of the corner while Albon drew alongside him mid corner. I don't know what LH could have done mid corner apart from let him just have it beforehand. Shame though as that's twice Albon has potentially missed a podium through himself and LH coming together.

VB did boss the weekend and what a result for LN and for taking fastest lap when in mattered. Two Brits in the top 4. Nil points for RB. LeClerc taking 2nd - who'd a thought it .....

It does seem everyone wearing masks. A bit surreal.

Oh and Kimi driving the wheels off the car. What on earth happened there?

Black Lives Matter.
But, arguably, our one black driver suffered a little racing prejudice today.
Dropped to 5th on the grid.
Handed a 5 sec penalty

But what a cracking last lap from Lando and a somewhat lucky LeClerc.....
Oh...and Kimi did drive the wheels off the car!

Quite enjoyed the race, then again probably would given the lack of action this year.

Was disappointed we didn't get any trip ups at first corner as on many races this can be the most interesting part. ;)

We at least had a few further interesting developments to keep things interesting.

For me this is a make or break year for Bottas, he should take a lot from this result.
With a few like this he could become a real contender but I sadly think he will fade away and not be up to the challenge from Hamilton.

Well lets hope that is the first and last mistake by the Mercedes team this season, there was no reason not to have the cars in for soft tyres, and because of that we had the Red Bull on soft giving Hamilton grief, still a nice soft touch has Hamilton just enough to spoil Red Bulls day.

I think Mercedes came up with the gearbox sensor excuse (the kerbs) as they wanted the cars to finish in a 1 and 2, or 2-1. They knew LH was pushing it and VB was defending whilst been caught up by LH quite hard. They would have been happy with a 1-2. Merc screwed up by not stopping for tyres on SC2 leaving Albon gaining them on fresher tyre in a clearly slower car.

All things been equal Ferrari and Red Bull should have been off the podium but it ended up where it did, due to the SC. All IMO of course :) SV was unlucky but everytime I watch Kimi - wtf happened there? Has the team explained it

LH's penalty was harsh for me, can't see where he could have gone unless he backed right off and just gave the position to AA.

Great result for Lando and McLaren. Racing Point seemed to lose their pace as the race went on. Perhaps when copying the W10 they also inherited their cooling issues?

Seb seemed to cause his own collision although he stated afterwards how undriveable the car was and that he was glad it was only one spin as the rear end got away more than once.

Not sure what happened to Kimi, they are supposed to have tethers to stop the wheel coming completely off like that

Going over those kerbs with power on creates severe torsional vibrations in the driveline. These can be very destructive if they happen to be at a resonant frequency. So FWIW, I don't think it was a tactic by the team.
