Formula 1, Moto GP, WSB, 2021 Season

If there was any kind of string pulling, the bookies will go bananas…
Without string pulling the only possible reason for the events is Masi's incompetence and given the stakes were so high he might have been expected to be more - not less - cautious in his decision making. If there was string pulling, we need to know by whom and why.

Was it the late Mr Lauda who was always advocating the "let them race" perspective? I wonder if this is quite what he had in mind.
I think this is quite a long way from what Niki would have had in mind.

My work colleague bet a fiver on...

Max passing Hamilton on the last lap and winning the race and WDC.

He got a blooming good payout!
Good for him

Its usually All laped cars allowed to overtake but on this occasion not enough laps left to allow that to happen so instead used his initiative and only allowed the cars in-between MV and LH to allow a last lap race BUT all laped cars would of got out the way in any case probably by the back straight so he would have passed LH in any case, as mentioned earlier every race is a gamble and MB lost Max and Lewis did nothing wrong so why bash max
We will hopefully have a better season next year

I think on balance that if the lapped cars had been left in place then it's a bit better than 50:50 that LH would have hung on to the end.

MV would have in effect been several seconds back - and LH would have probably made a very early get away - increasing his opportunity.

It would likely have come down to the last corner.

What Mr Masi did was a disgrace.

It's not MV that is being bashed - but the corruption of the regulations that enabled his last lap win. It was a travesty.

Precisely.
Verstappen‘s crown is now inexorably tarnished, whichever side of the fence you’re on.

Damn I was away last week and the hotel didn't have any feeds for the F1. I couldn't get SkyGo to work abroad and so missed all of Sky's coverage!

The only plus side was that I had an absolutely amazing holiday, even though I went to the same place over and over again!

Having just watched the ****nal v West Ham game I can confidently say the Premier League is as bent as F1.

An uncharacteristic moment of self-reflection on behalf of the FIA in an effort to offer an olive branch to Mercedes, or a recognition that they’ve really screwed up and are going to end up in deep trouble if Mercedes push their appeal all the way?

"Tarnishing the image ... of Mercedes' eighth constructors' championship"? Er, no. Masi's actions did not influence that. The drivers' championship, however, was effectively decided by him.

The FIA is looking to get away with a fudge, and since it is judge, jury and executioner in the appeal process, it will really depend on how much embarrassment it is prepared to endure if Mercedes really push it. It's all about protecting itself. Justice? Impartial? Transparent? Don't be silly...

Anybody know how the Dutch sporting media are reporting it, if at all, or are they all still too busy celebrating?

I've polished my crystal ball and can therefore predict:-

To avoid an embarrasing court case the FIA will declare the Abu Dhabi result null and void meaning Verstappen will still be champion on countback, Masi gets a public humiliation and will be 'resignated'. MB (and Ferrari?) will get undisclosed payouts and Race Director discretion will be curtailed and strictly defined.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter. I think Mercedes have F1 and the FIA bang to rights and the FIA know it. Damage limitation mode firmly engaged.
