Formula One 2018 - General Thread

Perhaps a certain Mr. Newey has some ideas on how to make things work with the Honda engine?

It may also be that Honda are willing to to take on board some of that certain Mr. Newey's requirements as well. They may be much more amenable to RB than Renault when it comes to putting effort into repackaging.

The circuit itself is in a fabulous location 1000' above the coast north of the lovely resort of Bandol.
I used to go there most years in the early 1990's for the Bol d'Or motorcycle endurance race and used to stay in Bandol. The location was excellent, the atmosphere fantastic, and Bandol Rosé is rather special too ;):D

Yes, eating in Bandol and shopping for enough wine to fill the lockers in the truck are other great pastimes of the region.;)
The time of the Bol d'Or was know as the annual cull of bikers to the locals. The roads from the circuit to Bandol are epic, but almost too tempting for many of the motorcycle race fans.
I've had the 'pleasure' of many rides with race drivers up and down those roads....and I'm still alive:rolleyes:
One Le Mans winning driver rolled a Renault Clio in a dice with a team mate down the hill, pushed it back on it's wheels, parked it outside the hotel and called the hire car company. The car which had 'fallen over' and scraped it's 'A' pillar(!) was replaced within the hour.....

Yup, they used to put crash pads and hay bales against any bit of immovable street furniture to try to minimise the consequences of the inevitable crashes

What I did like is the way the Gendarmes used to ride up and down the road to the circuit in amongst the fans to discourage bad behaviour. Always struck me as a much better approach than the British method of setting up a radar trap at the side of the road and sending out a fine a couple of weeks afterwards.

I was in Bandol a couple of years ago for the first time in many years and the road along the seafront has been completely ruined by "traffic calming" :(

Odd that, isn't it? I always saw the seafront as a quiet sanctuary...... the race track is at the top of the hill!
I'm sure it's due the the increase in car numbers, won't be anything to do with hooligan bikers:rolleyes:

I always found Bandol to be a lovely place and on race weekends it was impossible to traverse the seafront road at anything faster than walking pace most of the time due to the sheer volume of traffic, so I’m not sure why they thought traffic calming was necessary?

FWIW, Sanary-sur-Mer’s seafront road along the marina seemed to have been closed to traffic altogether.

Watching First Practise and this circuit reminds me of looking through a kaleidoscope  Someone had some paint to get rid of ...

Surely those stripy paint jobs on the run off areas must be distracting?

Well it's been that way since 2002, sales of sunglasses have increased, but no reported cases of blindness:cool:
From ground level it doesn't look bad at all, but from the air you can spot the place from 30,000';)

Actually you are right. Looking at the onboards, it's not really a distraction

Vettel deserved more than 5 seconds imo.

Same driver, same effort....different car, different race......
Didn't really have anyone to beat last weekend though. This weekend, much more difficult for him to get any kind of result.

Maybe so, but notwithstanding the first corner he drove well. Bit rough on Bottas to have suffered floor damage.
