Formula One 2018 - General Thread

The coverage on C4 is not the best. While I know it's 'only' practice, every time a car rounds La Source with Eau Rouge, one of the best corners on the whole F1 circus, beckoning, we get a shot of someone gurning in the pits instead :dk:

Ha ha, very true. Just a moment after I made my last post, the camera was pointed at someone reading a brochure of some sort. What grips me the most is the amount of replays done on race day :wallbash:

Isn’t the 'on track' feed provided by the host TV company, not sure that Ch4 have any say in what we see?

F1 provides the 'world feed' so they choose what is actually broadcast from their cameras. However, if there is for example pit lane coverage with Ch4 presenters, tht is CH4 choosing to air that rather than the world feed

It is indeed, which is why I said "The coverage on C4" and not "C4's coverage" ;)

These days it's provided by F1 itself as Bernie couldn't face handing over money to the locals.

Fernando Alonso rejected Red Bull

Shows how much he either wants the triple crown or lost faith in Honda

Christian Horner repeated the denial that Red Bull offered Riccardo's vacant seat to Alonso on Sky's lunchtime coverage today.
Guess what:D Fernando wants an apology.
Fernando Alonso wants Red Bull apology over denial of his claim they tried to sign him

One of them isn't telling the truth. After his collusion with Briatore in 2008 to gain a win, then deny any involvement in race fixing, I'm inclined to believe Red Bull.

Nelson Piquet's crash in Singapore: what really happened?

I did see that. He did also say that they had talks with Briatore about drivers and that maybe Franz spoke to them. One is obviously lying or a big misunderstanding. Perhas Briatore spoke to Helmut and assumed Red Bull but it was Torro Rosso drive? Still wouldn't fir in with Red Bull's programme anyway and he is adamant it was Red Bull.

But Alonso has insisted he was twice offered a drive with Red Bull this year and has received an apology from Horner for his comments.

Speaking to Sky F1 in an interview which will be played out in full during the build-up to the Belgian GP on Sunday from 12.30pm, Alonso said:

Alonso said:
"From Red Bull, in fact, l had in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and two this year - one in Monaco and one in August.

"The comments of Christian Horner this summer and Mr Marko are completely out of context and surprising about me causing chaos or being difficult to work with.

"One, they have never worked with me. And second, they have chased me on five or six occasions over the last seven years. And now they say that - that they are loyal to their programme and their junior drivers.

"It has been weird and unfair to me.

"I wrote to Christian after his comments this summer. He apologised on email and hopefully he will apologise again this weekend."

General ie not necessarily 2018 musing.......

Watching the c4 qualifying programme, they have just shown lots of clips from years gone by, with most of the teams being sponsored by tobacco companies- Rothmans, Marlboro, Camel etc.

How does this square with the total ban on tobacco advertising in place now?

It's historical reporting, much like a war documentary featuring the hate speeches of a certain German political party.

Excellent Qualy session!

If Briatore or Alonso offered up a free Polo Mint? I would wager it had an off-center hole.

The Hamster did it again and hit pole though my money was on Vettel right up until the last.
I hope there’s a right ding dong tomorrow with those two on the front row.
Nothing like Sundays with a few beers and a gp to watch ...

Apart from the 1st corner it was a total borefest.

I do like LH but when he doesn't win he puts himself across a miserable spoilt little bitch. I wonder what tricks he was referring to about Ferrari?

Thats why I don't like him

Show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser...

I don't know who said that, but it's true. Given that Lewis is driving a race winning car, he expects to be able to win and doesn't like it when he doesn't.

With regards to 'tricks' from the red team, perhaps he's referring to this:
What's behind Ferrari Formula 1 team's grid cooling bag trick?
